The Federal High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State on Wednesday sentenced one Ayan Olubunmi to two years in prison and a fine N500,000 for posting nude pictures of his ex-lover, Arare Monica, on Facebook.

The case with the suit number FHC/AD/17c/2017 was between the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN and Ayan Olubunmi.

Counsel to the AGF, O.A. Oyewole disclosed to the court that Ayan had threatened to post nude pictures of his ex-girlfriend, Monica, on social media sometime in 2017, when the lady informed him she was no longer interested in the relationship.

According to the counsel, Monica, a single lady, had pleaded with Ayan, who is married with children, not to carry out his threat and he had requested for a sum of N200,000 as inducement for him to rescind his decision.

Ayan had, however, posted the nude pictures of Monica as he threatened when the lady could not give him the money he demanded.

Delivering his judgement, Justice Taiwo Taiwo said Ayan was found guilty of committing the crime after evidence made available to the court was found as "incontrovertible proof that he willfully and maliciously committed the crime".

Describing the crime as disgraceful, very despicable and barbaric, Justice Taiwo said Ayan is guilty of violating Section 24 (1) of the Cyber Crime Act, 2015 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

The judge therefore sentenced the culprit to two years' imprisonment, and a fine of N500,000 to be paid into the coffers of the Federal Government.

"I find this act of the convict highly disgraceful, very despicable and barbaric to say the least. He has behaved true to the saying that hell knows no fury than  a lover 's scorn. I must say that the defendant who has a wife and children at home could find it easy to demean and embarrass a woman who was having an amorous affair with him.

"It is an act of meanness to attempt to, if he has not already tarnished the image and reputation of Asare Monica.

"The act of the convict is very strange in our society not to talk of in Aisegba-Ekiti and Ekiti State in general where there are very proud and educated men and women and the society is so closely linked together and everyone knows one another. The world has become a global village with the emergence of the social media. Who knows who would have seen the nude pictures?

"Justice in this case demands that people like the convict should be taught a lesson that would serve as deterrent to others who may like to behave in such manner.

"Under no circumstance must Asare Monica or any of her families and relatives be harassed by anyone. I therefore charge the Police to arrest anyone found to harass Monica or any of her relatives or families and friends."

The presiding judge said the jail term takes immediate effect, adding that he had been lenient in sentencing the culprit as the punishment for his crime attracted a fine of N7 million and a three-year jail term according to the Cyber Crime Act.

He said the court tempered Justice with mercy because of the pleas of the culprit's counsel that he has a family and he is a first offender.

The judge lamented that those who made the law that issued a punishment of N7 million and three years' jail term to persons guilty of such crimes did not make provisions for compensation for the victim.

He therefore advised that such provision should be made by law makers in a future exercise in amending the laws.

Lawan Faro, the middle-aged man in Yola, capital of Adamawa State, who climbed a 40 metre-high billboard hanger and threatened to fall off unless President Muhammadu Buhari resigns within 12 hours, has been arrested by the Police.

Faro is currently being held in custody at the Jimeta Division of the Nigeria Police in Yola.

"At about 8:00pm, some soldiers came by in company of some people who claimed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was waiting for me, so I was convinced and I came down,” he told SaharaReporters.

"They had a car parked waiting to take me to Atiku's house, but unfortunately it was a trick because here I am, they brought me to Jimeta Police Station.

“But make no mistake about my demand; the moment I regain my freedom, I'll be heading to a taller object, possibly a telecommunications mast, to carry out my threat.” See Also Breaking News BREAKING: Adamawa Man Climbs Billboard Hanger, Vows To Jump Down Unless Buhari Resigns Within 12 Hours

Speaking with SaharaReporters earlier in the day, Faro had said his action was necessitated by the "extreme poverty" in the land.

"I think it’s time for Buhari to give way for someone like Atiku Abubakar to lead us out of the present hardship," he had said.

"I will remain here for 12 hours to show my discontent, and someone not less than Atiku must come here to assure me that this government must be sacked in the forthcoming election.”

The Kaduna State Government has reviewed the 24-hour curfew initially imposed on the state as a result of violence that has led to the murder of more than 50 persons.

A statement by Samuel Aruwan, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor (Media and Publicity) on Wednesday, noted that "Effective tomorrow, Thursday, 25th October 2018, residents of Kaduna are free to pursue their legitimate business from 6am to 5pm".

A dusk-to-dawn curfew has also been enforced from 5pm to 6am daily "until further notice".

According to the statement, the state government took the decision to review the curfew hours after a meeting on Wednesday of a select committee of the State Security Council.

The statement read: "The heads of security agencies reported significant progress in restoring calm and commended residents for the peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves during the four-hour relaxation of the curfew in parts of Kaduna yesterday. The Government is grateful to our citizens for their cooperation while withstanding the unintended convenience.

"Government expects normal banking and other services to resume, and markets to open as normal as from tomorrow. The security agencies will remain vigilant and continue to protect residents. Intensive surveillance of known pockets of potential trouble is also continuing, by troops on the ground and by helicopter patrols.

"It is obligatory on residents to scrupulously observe the night-time curfew hours, to keep the peace and to cooperate with the security agencies to keep our state safe. Community leaders are enjoined to ensure that hoodlums and other potential threats to peace are promptly reported to the security agencies.

"Government therefore urges all residents to report any suspicious activity to the security agencies and to refrain from spreading rumours and unverified information. The Security Council advises that there will be no hesitation to reimpose a 24-hour curfew in the event of any breach of peace."

A group of women under the umbrella of the Africa Arise for Change Network has called on the United States to intervene in the fight against terrorism.

In a statement issued to journalists, Gbemisola Osadua, Executive Director of the group, decried that the women and girls abducted by Boko Haram in the North experience sexual violence, including rape, torture and murder.

She further urged US to help ensure the immediate protection of the rights of women and children from further abuse by Boko Haram terrorists.

The statement read: "This letter is a passionate appeal for the kind intervention of the United States of America to the plight of women and children in the hands of members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP-Boko Haram).

"Nigerian women and children have been at the receiving end of the brunt of the activities of Boko Haram terrorists as a result of increasing feminization of terror vide the use of young girls and children in their nefarious activities.

"Most of these women and girls abducted by Boko Haram in the northern areas of Nigeria experience sexual violence including rape, torture and also murder. A recent study suggests that more than 45% of those killed by Boko Haram are women and children.

"Boko Haram abducts women and children during raids on towns and villages in North-East Nigeria and detains them in Boko Haram camps. A typical example is the abduction of 276 female students of Government Secondary School, Chibok, Bornu State from their hostel on 14th April, 2014, into Sambisa forest.

"Similarly, on February 19, 2018, one hundred and ten (110) schoolgirls aged 11–19 years old were kidnapped by the Boko Haram terrorist group from the Government Girls' Science and Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi, area of Yobe State, in the northeast part of Nigeria.

"The activities of Boko Haram have dramatically changed the lives of thousands of women and children, often casting them by force into new and ignoble roles outside the domestic sphere. Gender-specific suffering has recorded high figures. While men have disproportionally been killed, women are an overwhelming majority among the estimated 1.8 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the North East.

"It is, therefore, our considered opinion that there is an urgent need for the United States of America to reassert its global leadership status by intervening in the war against terrorism in Nigeria and Africa. This is important because armed conflicts such as the Boko Haram conflict do have a devastating and harsh impact on women and girls. Women and girls suffer violations such as rape, forced prostitution, sexual slavery, forced impregnation and in some cases deaths as evident in the cases of Hauwa Liman and Saifura Khorsa, two aid workers of the International Committee of the Red Cross, that were summarily executed by the Boko Haram terrorist group in North East Nigeria.

"The contributions of the United States of America towards combating terrorism in the world cannot be overemphasized given the fact that between October 2015 and October 2017, the US fought terror in 76 countries in the world.

"Dear President of the United States, the terrorist threat in Nigeria is felt more in the lives of women and children, whose rights have been continually violated with impunity. It is therefore of great importance for the rights of women and children to be protected because women rights as human rights have been at the heart of a series of international conferences that have produced significant political commitments.

"We, therefore, make this passionate appeal to the government of the United States of America to stand in and ensure the protection of the rights of women and children from further abuse by Boko Haram terrorists."

Rotimi Akeredolu, Governor of Ondo State, has dared civil servants in the state to drag him to any anti-graft agency if they have evidence that he has received the last tranche of the Paris Club Refund from the Federal Government.

Akeredolu spoke in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Wednesday in his response to the allegation that his administration had received the last tranche of the Paris Club Refund but had refused to disburse it.

Last week, the workers had joined pensioners in a protest to demand payment of their outstanding salaries and allowances. The workers shut down all the routes to the Governor's office accused Akeredolu of conniving with the Account-General of the state to fix the sum of over N20 billion paid by the Federal Government as the last tranche of Paris fund in a private account.

However, the Governor denied the allegation, stating that the state government had not received last tranche of the Paris Club Refund. He challenged the organised labour leaders in the state to provide evidence that the Paris Club Refund was fixed into a private account to yield interest.

"It has been rumoured that I have fixed the Paris Club refund. It is not true and no Governor can fix that money. We have not received the money. I challenge anyone to tell the whole world where or the bank which we have fixed the money (Paris fund)," he said.

"We need to take care of other people in the state, because we are working for all the people of the state and there is need to develop the state in terms of roads and other infrastructural development.

“We cannot expend all the money accruing to the state to pay salaries of workers. We cannot do more than our capacity, because we have other things to attend to."

The Governor explained that his government would continue to place premium on the welfare of the civil servants in the state, adding that since he became Governor he has not owed any salary.

He also assured the civil servants that they would receive their "leave bonus" from the government this week.

"I have been paying their salaries as at when due," he said. "Even the eight months owned by the last administration, I have paid part of it. But let me assure that we would pay civil servants their leave bonuses before the end of this week."
