Aisha Buhari, wife of Nigeria's President, Muhammadu Buhari, has asked the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to release her security staff in detention on the orders of her husband's Personal Assistant, Sabiu ‘Tunde’ Yusuf, to avoid putting their lives in danger as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.

SaharaReporters had exclusively reported how Yusuf ordered the detention of Aisha’s Aide De Camp, Usman Shugaba, Escort Commander and other policemen attached to her after they forced him to leave the Presidential Villa for refusing to go on a 14-day self-isolation after a private trip to Lagos.

Confirming the development on Friday, Mrs Buhari called on all relevant government agencies to enforce the Quarantine Act signed by the President and ensure that no one was found violating the law.  Aisha Buhari

She said, “That COVID-19 is real and still very much around in our nation is not in doubt. Consequently, I call on all relevant government agencies to enforce the Quarantine Act signed by Mr President and ensure no one is found violating this law and the NCDC guidelines especially on interstate travel without the necessary exemptions for movement of essentials.

“Anyone who does that should at the very least be made to undergo a 14-day mandatory isolation no matter who the person is. No one should be above the law and the police command will do well to remember that.

“Finally, I call on the IGP to release my assigned staff still in the custody of the police in order to avoid putting their lives in danger or exposure to COVID-19 while in their custody.”

SaharaReporters further gathered that Mrs Bihari had driven Yusuf out of the Presidential Villa and insisted that he observe the 14-day isolation period before returning.

Recall that the First Lady also stood her grounds when some Presidency aides flouted the NCDC guidelines while attending the burial of President Buhari's late Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, in Abuja recently.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Buhari, was among those sent away from the Villa by the First Lady for breaching the Coronavirus rule.

Former lawmaker from Kaduna State, Shehu Sani, has described the present crop of public office holders in Nigeria as tyrants and military dictators, who disguised as civilians in the name of operating a democracy to oppress Nigerians.

He said the situation in the country today was a mockery of democracy that was fought for 27 years by activists, who confronted the military junta and laid down their lives.

Sani said, "This was not the democracy that we fought for. This is a democracy that has been hijacked, manipulated and dictated by tyrants, fascists, dictators in civilian cap.

"So, it is difficult for us as a people to differentiate between what we call a military rule and what is available today as democratic dispensation.

"You have seen how human lives have become so cheap in the last 21 years from Sharia in the Northern part of Nigeria, killings in South-East, cult activities in the South and ethnic militias are on the rise. Boko Haram terrorists and bandits have led thousands of people into avoidable deaths.

"The undemocratic forces who never sacrificed for democracy took over the mantle of leadership in the country and perpetuated themselves for 16 years from 1999-2015.

"They wasted the resources of the country and were unable to lead the country to the dream of those who led people to fight for democracy in 1993.

"People are no longer free to express their opinion, we are still arresting people for posting their views on Twitter and Facebook and jailing them. We have seen how it is difficult for journalists to operate and conduct their affairs.

"People in the position of authority are still finding it difficult to behave like democrats and accept the fact that they came through a legitimate constitution."
Sani therefore admonished youths to emulate and embrace the virtues of the late MKO Abiola.

The Ogoni Youth Federation has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to immortalise Ken Saro-Wiwa and other eight Ogoni martyrs, who were extra-judicially executed by the late General Sani Abacha-led military junta.

The OYF also urged the President to bestow national honour on Saro-Wiwa and clear the name of the renowned human and environmental rights activist and others.

The group in a statement by its President, Comrade Legborsi Yamaabana, also demanded for the release of Saro-Wiwa memorial bus impounded by Nigeria Customs Service led by Col. Hamid Ali (retd).

The OYF held that there were two pressing issues in Nigeria in 1993; the issue of June 12 by the Yoruba and that of Ogoni Bill of Rights.

It stated that while the June 12 issue had been settled in 1999 with Olusegun Obasanjo as President of Nigeria and the recent recognition of June 12 as Democracy Day in honour of MKO Abiola, another Yoruba man, nothing had been done to Ogoni issue and no accolade whatsoever was  given to the Ogoni nine despite their role in enthroning democracy in the country with their lives.

The statement reads, “It is also worthy to note that allies of the Ogoni people and Ken Saro-Wiwa in the United Kingdom led by an artist, Sokari Doughlas Camp created a bus in memory of Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight others.

“After being on display at various places in the United Kingdom for nine years, the bus was shipped from London to Nigeria via Lagos port. On arrival in Lagos, it was impounded by the Nigeria Customs Service on the orders of Col. Hamid Ali (retd), who was a member of the kangaroo tribunal that sentenced the renowned Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight others otherwise known as Ogoni nine to death by hanging.

“All efforts by Ogoni youth and other pressure groups to get the bus released to Ogoni people have proved abortive.

“It's our stern believe that the process of national healing and reconciliation will not be complete until the Nigerian Government bestow national honour and clears the names of the Ogoni nine.”

Infuriated by the incessant killing of Nigerians in the Northern part of the country, the Coalition of Northern Groups has described the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration as the “worst set of incompetent, ineffective, unfocused and generally unwilling leaders”.

The group in a statement by its spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, said the country was experiencing deterioration in social, security and political issues that are not being decisively addressed by the government.

The coalition stated that the reality on the ground now was one of pervasive fear and uncertainty all over the North, noting that everybody was feeling unsafe, uncertain and traumatic.  Muhammadu Buhari

It added that this government had invariably failed in the discharge of its most fundamental responsibility, which is the protection of life and property.

The statement reads, “The CNG is saddened to observe that Nigeria, in the entire period of its independent existence, has never had such worst successive leaderships as the ones we have in this fourth republic from 1999 to date.

“With the inception of the current dispensation in the last five years, Nigeria, in particular, the North has had the worst set of incompetent, ineffective, unfocused and generally unwilling leaders manning all the arms and levels of governance.

“We find it ridiculous for the federal government to be pretending to celebrate a certain Democracy Day while in the actual sense, the nation is supposed to be observing days of mourning.”

The coalition condemned the inactions of the state government in containing the attack by bandits in different states.

It lamented that government had left the killings unattended while all attention has been shifted to the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

The coalition stated, “The audacity with which bands of armed criminals ride freely to terrorize, massacre, loot and displace Katsina communities without any counter-response from government troops, call to question the willingness, readiness, sincerity and capacity to curb the drift towards anarchy in these affected parts.

“The role of some top officials of the Katsina State government under Aminu Bello Masari in this regard is similarly suspicious.

“It is an unexplained reality that in a single day's massacre across Borno, Katsina and Sokoto states alone, more people were killed than the coronavirus reportedly in three months nationwide.

“Yet, the government at all levels in Nigeria has diverted attention to a COVID-19 fight and relegated the issue of insecurity to the background.”

It urged the Northern Elders Forum to summon an urgent meeting of all stakeholders, to agree on definite conclusions to halt the continuation of decay and destruction of the North and its people and define practical measures to save Nigeria.
