Operatives of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) operatives have reportedly invaded the camp of Fulani herdsmen in Enugu State, chasing them away and killing two of their cows.

In a trending video, ESN operatives were seen chasing the herdsmen out of the forest.

It was learnt that residents of the area had earlier told the herders to stop destroying their farms but they allegedly refused.

However, while the herdsmen were chased out of the bush, a serious warning was given to them by ESN operatives not to return if they value their lives.

The video is coming few days after the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) claimed that the leader of Fulani bandits, Mohammed Isa, whom they arrested a few days ago in Benue State, had been killed.

Media and publicity secretary of the group, Emma Powerful, had told SaharaReporters on Thursday that the ESN would not spare terrorists.

Isa, who allegedly terrorised Igbo residents in Benue communities, was allegedly apprehended by the security outfit last weekend.

IPOB's leader, Nnamdi Kanu, had in December 2020 launched ESN to protect the people of South-East and South-South regions from terrorists and bandits allegedly trooping in from the North.

The IPOB leader described the outfit as a replica of the Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as Amotekun, earlier launched by the South-West governors to curb insecurity in the region.

"The sole aim and objective of this newly formed security outfit known as Eastern Security Network are to halt every criminal activity and the terrorist attack on Biafraland," Kanu had said.

"This outfit, which is a vigilante group like the Amotekun in the South-West and the Miyetti Allah security outfit, will ensure the safety of our forests and farmland, which terrorists have converted into slaughter grounds and raping fields."

There have been clashes between the military and ESN operatives in Orlu, Imo State, leading to the death of at least five persons.

Recently, it was also learnt that some Nigerian soldiers resigned and joined the ESN because the ESN, being funded by both international and local donors, had better welfare packages for its officers than the military.

"The Kanu ESN boys are not a bunch of rookies and untrained fellows brandishing guns. I know five guys from my hometown in Anambra State who left the Nigerian Army to join the ESN. Two of them were formerly serving in Operation Lafiya Dole, Borno State before they quit.

"We are reliably informed that there are other soldiers, particularly of the South-East extraction, who will soon leave for other various reasons and they are likely to be recruited into the fold," a military source told SaharaReporters.

In July 2012, about 356 soldiers in the North-East and other theatres of operation had resigned from the army – some on voluntary retirement. Others cited the loss of interest as their reason for disengagement.

Militants from the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād, have allegedly killed 33 Nigerian soldiers in Borno state.

According to ISWAP, in a statement released on Saturday, the soldiers were killed during an ambush on the Nigerian troops in Monguno.

The group also claimed 20 soldiers were injured in the attack.

Attached to the statement were pictures showing about 15 bodies of dead military officers.

Also displayed were seven operational vehicles, ‪military hardware and ammunitions ‬the group captured from the Nigerian army.

Boko Haram and its offshoot, Islamic State West Africa Province, have killed thousands and displaced millions in North-Eastern Nigeria.

The Nigerian military has repeatedly claimed that the insurgency had been largely defeated and frequently underplays any losses.

In the past months, the insurgents have targeted soldiers who lay ambush on their path.

Hundreds of soldiers and officers have been reportedly killed since January 2021.

At least 33 soldiers were recently killed when two explosive-laden vehicles rammed into a military convoy in Wulgo.

The suicide bombers were identified as Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and Bana Jundullah. The group also claimed four military vehicles were destroyed.

In February, about 20 soldiers were also killed in Malari, Borno State, by the insurgents.

SaharaReporters gathered that the soldiers were on patrol to clear some Boko Haram elements in the area following credible intelligence when the group ambushed them.

The Chancellor/ Chairman, Board of Regents, Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Dr David Oyedepo, has urged Nigerians to move nearer to God for more of His values to manifest in their lives.

Oyedepo, who is also the founder of the Living Faith Bible Church, said Nigeria has not changed for the better because only changed people can change their environment and their world.

The cleric stated this on Friday during the 19th matriculation ceremony of the university.

"We talk about peace in Nigeria, but we are all witnesses to how far we are from it. When you are transformed, then you can reform your society. Only changed people can change their world and things around them.

"That is why here at Covenant University, we aim to raise a new generation of leaders who will help redeem the battered image of the black race. We have some core values that we imbibe in our students and one of them is integrity. This is essential because whatever you can accomplish, it is only integrity that will help you preserve it," he noted.

Oyedepo added that any system that is afraid to be different would never make the difference.

He urged the new students to be determined to make a difference wherever they find themselves.

He noted the institution was set up to give "a total man education based on Biblical injunctions."  He charged them to shun vices that could truncate their studies in the school.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abiodun Adebayo, said the university was committed to raising tomorrow's leaders. He charged the new students to focus on their studies and take advantage of the quality education it would offer them. A total of 1607 students matriculated at the undergraduate level, while 155 did at the graduate level.
