Kyari in a statement on Sunday said, "I am writing to let you know that on medical advice I will transfer to Lagos later today for additional tests and observation.

"This is a precautionary measure: I feel well, but last week I tested positive for Coronavirus, the pandemic that is sweeping the world. I have followed all protocols government has announced to self-isolate and quarantine.

"I have made my own care arrangements to avoid further burdening the public health system, which faces so many pressures.

"Like many others that will also test positive, I have not experienced high fever or other symptoms associated with this virus and have been working from home. I hope to be back at my desk very soon.

"Like the whole world, we are dealing with a new disease. Our experts are learning more all the time about  Coronavirus, what it does and how we can combat it.

"This is a disease that recognises no difference between North and South, men or women, rich or poor. We are all in this together."

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday during a nationwide broadcast ordered the restriction of movement in Lagos, Ogun and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, following the outbreak and continued spread of Coronavirus in the country.

The restriction is expected to last for two weeks in the first instance to enable the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and other stakeholders rally all available resources to control the spread of the disease.

Buhari urged citizens in these areas to stay in their homes in order to reduce the risk of contracting the virus.

He equally advised that inter-state travels should be postponed.

According to the President, the containment period will be used to identify, trace and isolate all individuals that had come in contact with confirmed cases, including ensuring the treatment of confirmed cases while restricting further spread to other states.

He said, "Based on the advice of the Federal Ministry of Health and NCDC, I am directing the cessation of all movements in Lagos and FCT for an initial period of 14 days with effect from 11pm on Monday, March 30, 2020.
"This restriction will also apply to Ogun State due to its close proximity to Lagos and the high traffic between the two states."

Nigeria currently has 97 confirmed cases of Coronavirus and one recorded death.

President Muhammadu Buhari has banned the movement of persons in and out of Lagos, Ogun and Federal Capital Territory as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak.

He made the declaration on Sunday evening during a nationwide broadcast.

According to the President, the decision was taken because Lagos and the FCT had recorded the most cases of the pandemic in the country due to the international airports in both cities, which had allowed travellers from high risk countries for the virus to come into the country.

Buhari said Ogun State was included in the restriction because of its close proximity to Lagos and the fact that it bordered many other states in the South-West.

The President asked Nigerians to put aside their personal comfort to help combat the pandemic, adding that citizens should stay at home to reduce the risk of the virus spreading further.

Buhari said that security agencies would be drafted in to help government’s effort at tackling Coronavirus.

Nigeria currently has 97 confirmed cases of the virus and one recorded death.

The Nigerian Government has evacuated staff of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control stranded in the Republic of Congo.

In a statement, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Republic of Congo, Deborah Iliya, commended the government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs for deploying an aircraft to airlift the stranded personnel back to Nigeria.

According to Iliya, the NCDC staff had travelled to Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, to undergo a special capacity building course by the World Health Organisation in order to expand their knowledge of Coronavirus management.

The statement reads, “The medical team had been stranded following the closure of air and land borders by the host country ostensibly for similar situation.

“In the same vein, the ambassador, on behalf of the Government of Nigeria, has commended the government and good people of the Republic of Congo for the singular act of solidarity and standing on good relations by the temporal opening of her airport to facilitate the departure of the team on March 26, 2020.

“This act has in no small measure further strengthened the bilateral harmony that exists between the two countries.

“This trying moment calls for unity, support for each other and forging a common front against Coronavirus and all that stands against peace.”

At the moment, Africa has 4,480 confirmed cases of Coronavirus and 135 deaths, with 97 infections and one death coming from Nigeria.

A former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has called on both the federal and state governments to roll out palliatives to mitigate the effect of the Coronavirus lockdown in most parts of the country.

Sani said the country may witness a situation where citizens would be dying of hunger and starvation after exhausting what they had stockpiled at home.

He added that the situation may lead to an uprising and total breakdown of law and order in an attempt for survival.

Sani said, “When the stock of food and water in the homes of people are exhausted, there will be nothing else left to fear and no law and directives left to obey.”

The former lawmaker slammed the Kaduna State Government for not putting in place measures to alleviate the hardship people were going through as a result of lockdown.

The senator called for urgent measures to cushion the effect of the restriction on movement for the masses.

According to John F. Kennedy, “The war against hunger is truly mankind’s war of liberation.”  It is no longer news that Coronavirus (Covid-19) is quite alarming and far spreading while food prices have risen dramatically around the country in recent days, fuelling widespread concern and social unrest in communities confronted with devastating price increases when buying provisions and food stuff. Exactly what accounts for this wild upswing in market prices and what do these trends hold for those already living in precarious conditions?

Hunger and malnutrition are self-perpetuating issues that affect a person’s mental ability, health, work and productivity. They constitute the world’s greatest public health risk, more pressing than corona virus (Covid-19).

There will be restrictions of movement due to the outbreak of Covid-19 (Corona Virus) and yet the government have no plan for its citizen during the sit at home period while other countries made provisions for their citizen so as not to lose their lives to hunger because hunger kills faster than a virus. At least 70 per cent of Nigerians are living on stipend even when they go out to hustle to put food on their tables, what will be their fate staying at home for a longer period without having an alternative? How do they survive? If they eventually survive the virus, will they survive the hunger?

The Nigerian government should put a proper measure in place so our case won't end up like that of Italy, Spain and America respectively or even worse. Nigerians cherish their lives and am very sure the whole of the cities will be empty like a grave yard if the government can roll out an economic stimulus package to its citizen or better still give out relief funds to every individuals.

Influential individuals and organizations are not left out, I personally go against the act of tokenism portrayed by our banking sectors as i see it as policy or practice of making only a symbolic effort. 80% Nigerians are bank users and as well have a BVN (Bank Verification Number), relief funds can be disbursed to Nigerians via their BVN numbers irrespective of where they are. Billions of naira have been paid to the government account by individuals, organizations as well as the banking sectors to support during this pandemic while its citizens are languishing. I hope mosquitoes don't swallow all the billions as we will be left with no choice as usual to believe it was swallowed by mosquitoes.

The government should put in place an alternatives for its citizen not just to tell us to sit at home and die of hunger as majority of Nigerians lives on hand to mouth on daily basis.

Education and awareness are the first steps to understanding and solving any issue and hunger is no different, while malnutrition is the single largest contributor to disease.

You pray for the hungry, then you feed them. This is how prayer works. – Pope Francis.

For the intellectual, miracle could be described as God's great supernatural intervention in the natural affairs of men.

But for the layman, miracle could equally be described as wonderful, surprising healing and deliverance by Pastors or men of God through the name of Jesus the Christ.

For the uninitiated, Jesus is still performing miracles through His servants. But for those who see clearly and broadly refusing to be drawn into or hoodwinked by the miracle merchants most of what we see today that pass off as 'miracles' are nothing but spiritual fraud or 419.

Make no mistake about it folks. Unadulterated or undoctored miracles still occur here and there, far and near, in our generation because Jesus is still alive! But majority of these publicised miracles are doctored and adulterated, thus faked, to ascribe to the perpetrators an aura of spiritual power or sophistication they possess not.

Jesus Christ did a lot of miracles here on earth while living with our forebears in flesh and blood thousands of years ago. Such awe-inspiring miracles like raising Lazarus from the death three days after his demise, feeding the hungry multitude with just few loaves of bread and fishes and turning water into wine in a social gathering.

Even post-Jesus His disciples had continued to do miracles by invoking His powerful name. Before His departure He had instructed them to perform miracles greater than what He did with faith as their source of power.

We believe that Jesus still heals, delivers and saves even today through His direct and indirect interventions via angelic 'soldiers' scattered on earth.

While we belong to those who pray and worship the Almighty at home (refusing to be drawn to the disoriented crowd of the hoodwinked) we hold however that among the fake prophets and pastors turning worshipping God into a lucrative venture one could still find some serious-minded spiritually-strong men of God delivering on the commandments of the Most High and His begotten Son.

By their fruits we shall seek them out. Or as the Bible enjoined us: by their fruits we shall know them!

The Action Democratic Party has urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos to be accountable on funds received by the state to tackle the outbreak of Coronavirus.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Prince Adelaja Adeoye, in a statement on Saturday, said the public was already asking questions on where the donations and grants running into several billions were going.

He said, “As a public officer, it is important that while updates are being given to Nigerians on the efforts so far, the way and manner funds donated are used since they do not require legislative approvals before spending, should also be made known to the public.

“This has therefore necessitated the need to open a public account where citizens can access such information.

“The Lagos State Government plans to give succour and palliatives to residents is commendable but the governor should not allow those who may want to politicise it and won't allow it get to those who genuinely need them due to stay at home order.”

Adelaja stated that while it was commendable to donate to Lagos State to contain the spread of the virus, private organisations and individuals should not forget that other states need help, too.

Commenting on the allegation against the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control not testing enough Nigerians, Adelaja said it should be investigated because if not it will underscore the entire efforts of private individuals, corporate organisations and government.

Tacha Akide, popular Nigerian reality TV star, has berated Nigeria's President, Muhammadu Buhari, for failing to address Nigerians over Coronavirus pandemic in the country.

In a two-minute 25 seconds video she uploaded to one of her social media pages on Friday, Akide wondered why Nigerians accepted abnormal things without holding their elected leaders to account.

She said, "It seems like we as a country are forgetting who we are. We are forgetting that Nigeria is one of the most populated black countries in the world.

"Nigeria is the giant of Africa but look at us, getting addressed on Twitter, did we vote for our President from Twitter?

"Over 14 million people voted for the person on seat yet we are getting addressed from Twitter and everybody is just seating down like it's normal.

"The average Nigerian works on a daily basis and get paid on a daily basis. We have a lot of Nigerians that do blue collar jobs; if they do not work in a day, they will not get money to eat for that day yet we want to have a lockdown, what do people eat? Conductors, mothers that go to the market to sell stuff to people, what do they eat?

"When you say lockdown and everyone should stay home, what will people be able yo eat? When you say lockdown you should also provide food for people. Hunger is deadlier than this virus.

"So you don't sit in your office and address Nigerians on Twitter because you think we are fools.

"This is the time that we need you (Buhari), we need to find hope from your speech if not everyday at least twice a week."

Nigeria now has 81 confirmed cases of Coronavirus and one recorded death.

An Islamic cleric based in Australia, Mohammad Tawhidi popularly known as 'Imam of Peace', has slammed Nigeria's President, Muhammadu Buhari, over his failure to address Nigerians on the Coronavirus pandemic that is spreading rapidly across the country and wreaking havoc.

Tawhidi also berated Buhari for his poor handling of terrorism in Nigeria especially in the North-East region where Boko Haram has killed thousands and displaced millions.

Expressing his thoughts on Twitter on Friday, Tawhidi said Buhari was not fit to be Nigeria's President.

According to him, the Nigerian Government under Buhari had failed the citizens.

He said, "Weak leadership of Buhari, failed President. No realistic agenda to tackle Jihadists. All talk.

"You don't even know the name of disease killing your people."

Speaking further, Tawhidi said that supporters of Buhari were coming after him on Twitter over his comments.

Reacting to the development, a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Gani-Kayode, said, "@Imamofpeace has focused his attention on @MBuhari and his goons, made a fool of them and taken them to the cleaners.

"Nigeria has become the butt of cruel jokes and a laughing stock because our President has disappeared into thin air.

"Where are the Bubu-lovers now?  We warned you."

Also adding his voice to the issue, Reno Omokri, aide to former President, Goodluck Jonathan, said, "General @MBuhari has turned himself into an international figure of fun to the extent that one of the world’s most popular Islamic clerics, @Imamofpeace, described him as the “dumbest person in Nigeria."

President, Centre for Change, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, has called on the Nigerian Government to steer clear of its plan to rearrest human rights activist and journalist, Omoyele Sowore, saying such move would be counter productive.

Sowore had raised the alarm over moves by the Nigerian Army to secretly secure an order from the Federal High Court, Abuja, to rearrest him over SaharaReporters publication revealing that President Muhammadu Buhari's Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, had been infected with Coronavirus.

Odumakin said such attempts by the government was tantamount to taking Nigeria back to the dark age and total into abyss.  See Also Breaking News BREAKING: Sowore Raises The Alarm Over Plot By Buhari's Regime To Re-arrest Him After SaharaReporters Exposed Coronavirus In Aso Villa

She said the President should concentrate on finding solutions and remedy to the problems created by his failure and negligence in tackling Covid-19.

In a statement on Friday, Odumakin said, "Our attention has been drawn to the alarm raised by Publisher of SaharaReporters, Mr Omoyele Sowore, that the Federal Government was planning an onslaught on him for reporting that Mr Abba Kyari was Coronavirus positive.

"Does it mean that our government would have concealed Kyari's status and allowed Coronavirus unchecked among the top echelon of Nigerian society?

"If the status of UK Prime Minister can be made public, who is Kyari that his status must not be known?" she queried.

Okei-Odumakin said SaharaReporters had done a great service to the country by making the information public.

She advised government to begin to remedy its failure by doing whatever it can to provide services for citizens.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has warned the Nigerian Government not to make any attempt to rearrest rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, over reports by his online news medium exposing that Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, had contracted Coronavirus.
Recall that SaharaReporters had on Monday reported that Kyari was ill and had contracted the deadly virus, which was later confirmed by the Nigerian Center for Disease Control.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja, and dated March 26, 2020, Falana said that he had it on a good authority that there were clandestine moves by the Nigerian Army to secure an ex-parte order to detain Sowore over some ridiculous allegations of "revealing classified information" through SaharaReporters.

He explained that the move was aimed at undermining and truncating the rule of law and democracy.  See Also Breaking News BREAKING: Sowore Raises The Alarm Over Plot By Buhari's Regime To Re-arrest Him After SaharaReporters Exposed Coronavirus In Aso Villa

He added that the activist was not a member of the Armed Forces and therefore cannot be subjected to the Armed Forces Act or any regulation to warrant any application to detain him in military facility.

The legal icon urged the Nigerian Army to report Sowore to the police if there was evidence that he had committed any offence whatsoever.

Falana said, "More so that our client who is currently facing a charge of treasonable felony has been admitted to bail by the trial court even though his freedom had been restricted to Federal Capital Territory.

"Furthermore, in view of Suit No.FHC /ABJ/CS/1469/2019 between Omoyele Sowore and ANOR ( pending before honourable Justice I.E Ekwo wherein the application is challenging the violation of his fundamental human right to personal liberty by the federal government, we urge your Lordship to use your good office to ensure that we are put on notice in the respect of any application that may be filed concerning our client."

Recall that Sowore had on Thursday raised the alarm over a plot by the Nigerian Government to detain him over exposing the outbreak of Coronavirus in Aso Villa.

In a message to his followers on Facebook on Thursday, Sowore said his lawyers had informed him of a high-powered delegation sent to the Federal High Court in Abuja to obtain a detention order.

Sowore was first arrested in the early hours of August 3, 2019 by operatives of the Department of State Services for calling on Nigerians to take to the streets in peaceful demonstrations on August 5 to demand a better country from the administration of President Buhari.

He was kept in unlawful detention from that period until December 5, 2019 when he was finally released on bail despite two court orders earlier sanctioning his freedom.

In a twist of event, DSS operatives invaded the Federal High Court in Abuja on December 6, 2019 to rearrest him without any court order.

He remained in unlawful detention until 18 days later when he was released by the secret police for the second time.

At the resumption of his trial in a case brought against him by the Nigerian Government, the prosecution failed to prove accusations against him and even went ahead to dropping seven of the charges earlier preferred against him.

Groups and high-raking individuals from around the world have described the charges against Sowore as baseless and a waste of time.

The journalist remains confined to Abuja as one of his bail conditions forbids him from leaving the city or speaking with journalists until the end of his trial.

The African Action Congress has asked President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress to outline strategic plan on how to curtail Coronavirus from further spreading in Nigeria.

In a statement, Ken Henshaw, AAC’s National Deputy Chairman, said, “The socio-political and socioeconomic circumstances surrounding this nation at this time of Coronavirus invasion has necessitated questions begging to be answered.

“This is why we will be asking the Buhari/APC government frank questions as our lives are on the line together now.

“How do we expand healthcare coverage beyond the current minute participation and get mass volunteers, isolation centres, test centres in all villages, towns and cities. What are the plans for rural and slum dwellers who are not captured in the development plans?

“How is the government planning food sustenance for all citizens so more people do not die of hunger?

“What plans have the government for effective water supply, fumigation and routine checks? How will government get electricity massively and freely available to all citizens?”

While accusing political leaders of negligence and selfishness in leaving the borders open, Henshaw asked government to explain how it will ensure that vulnerable Nigerians abroad are repatriated,

He added, “How will the government make mass communications more effective and data/credit cheaper and subsidised? How will the government conduct really planned, vigilant, and responsive public education and mobilization?

“What are the special packages and privileges for health and security workers? What are the plans for price control and fights against hoarding and other business shenanigans? How will the government ensure public accountability as to the funds on coronavirus?"

The AAC Deputy Chair noted that government’s reactions have been slow and feeble in comparison to other countries that have taken proactive steps such as fumigating their cities, testing citizens, making kits available, recruiting more health workers and building emergency hospitals.

Henshaw stated, “Adhering to instructions as regards precautionary measures would do a lot of good because alarmingly there is yet no medical breakthrough for the virus.

“AAC believes that the people must seize this opportunity to stand our grounds and insist the government cares for all and not for a few.

“African Action Congress demands that all hands are on deck at this moment to make sure that we have short and long term solutions to what is happening today.

“We must all learn that the best is for us all to stand with revolutionary parties than these reactionaries who think of their pockets alone.”

The Supreme Court in Abuja on Friday morning threw out the application of the All Progressives Congress demanding a review of the judgement on the Zamfara State governorship election.

According to the Supreme Court judges, the request was a gross abuse of court, frivolous and grossly vexatious.

The court thereafter ordered the APC to pay N2m to the respondents in the case.

The ruling now affirms Bello Matawalle as governor of Zamfara State.

When residents of Akure, capital of Ondo State, went to bed on Friday night, they had no inkling of what laid in wait for them.

Like persons in other parts of the country where relative peace exists, they had hoped to wake up to a blissful Saturday despite the Coronavirus lockdown sweeping ferociously across the city and indeed most sections of Nigeria. Spirits were high.

But by the time the early morning dew ushered in Saturday, Akure and hundreds of its residents had bitter tales on their lips. A deadly explosion that ripped through large parts of the city around 1:00am had not only destroyed houses, schools, churches and left dozens of persons critically injured, the blast equally left scores of individuals and families without a roof over their heads anymore. It was the last thing the people ever wished for at this time.

Nigeria is currently locked in efforts to curb the spread of Coronavirus pandemic in the country and as part of the strategy adopted, markets have been closed, public gatherings banned and residents asked to remain in their houses to avoid being infected with the virus. For residents of Oba Ile, Eleyowo and Osi communities – three of the most affected parts by the blast in Akure– life has indeed become darker. During a visit to the area on Saturday, residents including landlords of destroyed buildings told SaharaReporters that the tragedy had rendered them homeless and exposed them to the risk of contracting Coronavirus. All around the community, our correspondent saw people wearing long faces, crying and lamenting bitterly at the terrible calamity that had befallen them.

A woman, who identified herself only as Mummy Twins, told SaharaReporters that the explosion scared them to their marrows and sent them scampering to different corners for safety.

“I woke up at midnight to use the toilet when I heard the heavy sound of the blast,” she began, trying desperately to contain her emotions. “I was afraid and began to wonder what could have happened.

“By the time I got back to my sitting room, the explosion had destroyed the ceilings in the rooms including electronics.

“The explosion even shook the entire building and I had to quickly wake up my children so that we could stay alert to whatever was coming.

“The entire house was destroyed, we do not have anywhere to lay our heads as we speak. In this period of Coronavirus that government is asking everyone to stay indoors, we have been rendered homeless and exposed to the risk of contracting the virus. We need the entire world to help us,” she added.

Another resident of the affected area, Mrs Hanna, also lamented the destruction of their house by the explosion. Like Mummy Twins, she told SaharaReporters that they have nowhere else to call home.

“We don't know who is willing to help us, I am a widow and don't know what to do.

“The entire house have been destroyed as a result of the explosion and with the Coronavirus lockdown, we do not know where to go with our family,” she said.

A commercial motorcycle rider living close to the area of explosion, told SaharaReporters that he had never seen anything like Saturday’s tragedy in his life.

“Immediately I heard the blast, I was gripped with fear and could not do anything until my wife knocked me back into consciousness.

“In fact, I thought it was a bomb because the blast was so intense that by the time we managed to come out of our houses, we saw people running in different directions,” he said.

A pastor whose building is also not far from the scene of the explosion, told SaharaReporters that he saw a lot of people screaming and running for safety as the blast ripped through the area. According to him, many of them have been rendered homeless by the disaster.

A secondary school with boarding facilities – Aina Awawun International College – and a church, Possibility Prayer Mountain for All Nation, are among several buildings destroyed by the explosion, which also damaged major roads in Akure.

The situation has also left at least 13 persons badly injured and currently battling for life at the hospital.

According to findings by SaharaReporters, the explosion was triggered after a truck carrying explosive items to a quarry caught fire after experiencing technical failure. Driver of the truck took to his heels upon seeing the monumental damage the explosion had caused in the affected communities.

While visiting scene of the tragedy, Commissioner of Police in the state, Undie Adie, confirmed that the truck was carrying dynamites to a quarry when the incident happened.

“The driver of the truck was coming from Lagos and heading to Edo State but along the road, it developed some mechanical fault and it was immediately noticed.

“In fact from the explanation of the escort commander, they had to try to move it away from where there were houses.

“When they parked and came out and noticed there was smoke coming out from the engine, the driver’s effort to put it off was not possible and fire broke out,” he said.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo during a visit to scene on Saturday described the explosion as an unfortunate incident. He said the police had been instructed to carry out a thorough investigation into the tragedy.

“We advise all residents not to come near the scene for now. We were told that the vehicle carrying the thing (explosives) is buried inside the ditch that was created as a result of the explosion and nobody knows the number of explosive items still left.

“I urge residents to allow the police do their work,” he said.

Saturday’s tragedy in Akure comes less two weeks after a similar explosion rocked the Abule-Ado area of Lagos, destroying over 50 buildings, dozens of vehicles and causing at least 20 deaths. Authorities are yet to discover the real cause of that incident.
