The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore has reacted to a statement by the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, alleging he was attacked by suspected herdsmen on Saturday at Tyomu community in Makurdi Local Government Area of the state.

Ortom had been at the forefront of the fight against killer herdsmen in Benue State, claiming that they had been killing his people in order to take over their ancestral lands.

Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, President of the Miyetti Allah Association, addressing a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.

Ortom immediately blamed the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore and called for their arrest.

He was quoted as saying, "You know today is Saturday and it is normal as a farmer, I usually go to my farm on Saturdays.

“So I went to my farm along Gboko Road and while trekking out of the farm; on our way back, we started hearing gunshots and we saw people a little afar who were dressed in black and from experience, we realised that these were the criminal militia.

“I did not want to take things for granted because, a few days ago, the media were awash with a statement from Miyetti Allah, which had met in Yola, the same place they met in 2016, where they declared that they will take over Nigeria and that every other person is a slave and that was when they started infiltrating the entire country. They came out with a statement singling me out as the only person who is creating a problem for the entire Fulani race.

“And behind the scenes, I also heard that in the meeting, I was targeted for elimination, this was the information I got. That they will go after me either in my home, farm or wherever they could get me. This is not the first time, I got an intelligence report that these people said that they were going to kill my security aides and capture me alive and gradually killing me.

“But like I always say, my life is in the hands of God, not in the hands of any Fulani man or anybody whatsoever. And I remain firm, I will fight for the truth, equity and fairness till when God permits that I will not be here again, then I will go."

But reacting in an interview with DailyTrust, the National President of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, said Ortom was lying.

He accused the Benue governor of keeping malice against the group because they sued him over the controversial anti-grazing law he enacted in Benue.

Bodejo said: “There was nothing secret about the conference we held in Yola. We called for unity and sensitised Fulani on the need for peaceful coexistence with other people. Ortom lied, we don’t know anything about the said attack.

“Ortom hates Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore ever since we took him to court. We are still in court with him. If he claims we said something in Yola; yes, we called on him to review the law because Fulani herdsmen are losing their cattle.

“Journalists (in Yola) asked me about the Benue anti-grazing law; I explained that the law was discriminatory. The Fulani are being fined unjustly. We advised him to review the law because the Fulani are forced to sell their cows to pay the fine."

Francis Onwuachi, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Onitsha branch, Anambra, who was kidnapped on Friday, has been killed by his abductors.

Onwuachi, who is also the President-General of Omor, a community in Ayamelum Local Government Area, was kidnapped along Ezu River/Anaku Road on Friday, while on his way to his town by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

The Committee of Chairmen and Secretaries of the Nigerian Bar Association Branches in Anambra State has bemoaned what it described as the worsening security situation in the state.

In a statement signed by all the chairmen and secretaries of the various branches, the association said there is tension in Anambra State and urged the Nigerian government, Anambra State Government and heads of security agencies to address the security issues before it denigrates to anarchy.

The statement read: "The Committee of Chairmen and Secretaries of the Nigerian Bar Association branches in Anambra State bemoans the worsening security situation in Anambra State and calls on the Federal Government, Anambra State Government and heads of security agencies to wake up and be alive to their responsibilities of protecting lives and properties of the citizens.

"The Committee notes that the security situation in Anambra State is highly tensed up and frightening, to say the least. Recently, there have been cases of kidnap and gruesome murder/killing of innocent citizens and security personnel in the state and nothing is being done to curb these frightening security challenges in the state.

"Just last Friday, 12/3/2021, a lawyer, Bar Frank Onwuachi, who is also the President-General of Omor in Ayamelum LGA of Anambra State was kidnapped along Ezu River/Anaku road and gruesomely murdered the following day by his captors.

"Yesterday, 19/3/2021, two Prison Officers were killed at Ekwulobia, Aguata LGA and this is barely 24 hours after Naval officers and policemen were killed at Awkuzu and Neni respectively. Also, a Naval Outpost close to Bridgehead was attacked sometimes last week resulting in the killings of some Naval officers and their weapons carted away.

"The Committee urgently calls on the State Government to as a matter of urgency summon a meeting of various security agencies in the state to address these worrisome security situations and tackle it headlong. Failure by the state government to act immediately may lead to descent to anarchy. We all cannot continue to downplay the security situation or pretend that all is well. The time to act is now.

"The Committee condoles with the NBA Otuocha Branch, the families of the late Bar Frank Onwuachi and all security men killed by unknown gunmen and prays that their souls rest in peace. The Committee consequently resolves as follows: That all lawyers in Anambra State shall boycott all courts from Monday, 22/3/2021 to Wednesday, 24/3/2021;

"That all lawyers in Anambra State should converge at the Judiciary Headquarters, Awka on Monday, 22/3/2021 by noon for onward movement to the Government House, Awka to express our dissatisfaction with the current security situation in Anambra State; Chairmen of Bar Branches in Anambra State are requested to sensitize their members and various Court heads to ensure compliance with the above directives."

The Defence Headquarters has dismissed a trending video clip on social media alleging that some Nigerian military personnel were on a spying mission to the residence of Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho) before they were apprehended.

A video, showing captured military men allegedly sent to spy on Igboho, was released by Igboho's aide, Olayomi Koiki, and had circulated on social media on Friday.

Major General Lucky Irabor, Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff

In a statement on Saturday, the Director, Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General Benard Onyeuko, the DHQ described the report on some media platforms, and claims made in the video, as false and warned mischief-makers in the country to desist from dragging the Nigerian Armed Forces into petty political issues.

Onyeuko stated that alleged soldiers were seen being accused of having been sent by the government to do a ‘survey’ of Sunday Igboho’s Soka residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

“The self-acclaimed ‘Yoruba activist’ also alleged that the action of the so-called 'soldiers' was orchestrated by the Federal Government as a result of comments he made alleging that Yoruba are no longer a part of Nigeria.

“While the Defence Headquarters has no interest in dragging or joining issues with Sunday Adeyemo or his associates, it is pertinent to clear the air and address these allegations squarely

“For the record, it should be noted that the Armed Forces of Nigeria, are highly professional in the discharge of their duties, with well-defined roles, responsibilities and duties in its mandate of securing the territorial integrity of the Nigerian nation.

“As such, the military cannot stoop so low to such extent to ‘spy’ on one individual, as wildly and loosely alleged.

“Secondly, the Armed Forces of Nigeria is a highly disciplined and professional organisation with extant laws and regulations which guide the actions of its personnel in the conduct of their duties. As such, it is practically impossible for military personnel on official duty to conduct themselves in such a manner as alleged by Adeyemo and his cohorts.

“For the avoidance of doubt, a preliminary investigation has so far revealed that one of the alleged ‘soldiers’ is a serial impersonator.

“Meanwhile credible eyewitnesses and sources have also revealed that some associates of Igboho went in pursuit of some individuals when the motorbike conveying the impersonator and one Nigerian Air Force personnel ran into them.

“The duo was immediately apprehended and taken to the said 'Igboho House' at Soka before Ibadan toll gate, where they were branded as spies.

“Furthermore, investigations are currently underway by Nigerian Air Force and the Nigerian Army to unravel the actual circumstances which played out on the day. The Defence Headquarters has therefore warned individuals and groups to desist from disparaging the enviable reputation of the Nigerian military by dragging it into its petty issues to gain political mileage. Such actions will not be condoned in the future.”

Serving senators and members of the House of Representatives from Kogi State have said they have not made up their minds on whether to receive the COVID-19 vaccine or not.

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, took his vaccination on Tuesday and announced a two-week schedule for other senators to have the vaccine.

The leader of the Kogi lawmakers’ forum in the National Assembly, Smart Adeyemi, said even if the senators will ever take the vaccine, it is because they are in Abuja COVID-19 infections are common claiming the disease “appears to be afraid of the Kogi people”.

Adeyemi, who is also the Vice-Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, said all the 12 National Assembly members from the state were solidly behind the governor, Yahaya Bello, who has repeatedly stated that there is no COVID-19 in the state.

He said the only consideration that could make them go for the vaccination would be to prevent them from infecting their constituents in the state if they travelled home.

The senator said, “The Kogi State legislators in the National Assembly have not thought of taking the vaccines yet, but if ever we will take it at all, it is because we are in Abuja where there is COVID-19 but there is no COVID in our state.

“I don’t know the magic in Kogi State because the coronavirus is not killing our people. If it is leading to deaths in the state, I would be the first person to cry out and disagree with our governor but our people are not dying and they are not falling ill.

“I agree with our governor that there is no COVID-19 in Kogi State. If the disease is there, people would have been dying. It appears COVID-19 is afraid of the Kogi people. To a large extent, we are convinced that our governor knows what he is doing and saying.”

The senator claimed that officials of the Ministry of Health told him that they did not know what was happening in Kogi that was keeping people from dying from COVID-19.

“We cannot be killing our people just to justify that the disease is real. We are not just saying yes to our governor but we are saying yes to him because nobody has died of the disease.

“We cannot disagree with our governor. How do we disagree with a man who maintains a position and stands by it and you don’t have any contrary fact to fault him? Our people are not dying and we should not be hypocritical about it.

He added: “Governor Bello is a highly courageous person. He takes a position the moment he knows what he is doing is in the best interest of the people. If our people are dying, we would have spoken against it."

Kinsmen of the former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan under the aegis of the Ogbia Brotherhood Youths Council and other Ijaw communities under the auspices of the Movement for the Survival of Ijaw Ethnic Nationality in Niger Delta (MOSIEND) have disowned a former warlord, Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, for identifying them as part of the Biafran territory under his leadership.

For instance, National President, OBYC, Comrade Napuru Bassuo, in a statement described Asari Dokubo as a loner on the journey.

The Movement for the Survival of Ijaw Ethnic Nationalities in Niger Delta (MOSIEND), through its National President of MOSIEND, Kennedy Tonjo West said Dokubo was on his own and should not be taken seriously.

The President of MOSIEND, Kennedy Tonjo West, in a statement issued via electronic mail, said all Ijaw communities were insulted by Dokubo’s attempt to associate them with Biafra and called on the ex-militant leader to tender an unreserved apology to the Ijaw.

West said: “Asari Dokubo’s statement is lacking in substance and merit. It is self-seeking and self-serving. He is on a wild goose chase and a lonely Biafran. Izon communities can never be (under) Biafran province. Dokubo’s Biafra Customary Government is a figment of his wildest imagination.

“None of the purported province claimed by Asari Dokubo belonged to Biafra. Dokubo’s statement is insultive, provocative, and narrow in perspective. Can he say this before the communities or their kings?

“MOSIEND condemns it and demands an apology for his bogus and unfounded claims. Asari is on his own. Asari should not be taken seriously on this matter.”

West said Dokubo’s latest adventure would only cause disaffection between the Ijaw and the Igbo and warned the ex-militant against creating enemies for Ijaw people.

He said: “Dokubo’s claim is an affront on the ancestral integrity of those ancient towns he made mention. It is disturbing, misleading and undermining. While we respect the views of our compatriots from other ethnic nationality, our agitation should be devoid of ethnic rivalry.

“Izon communities and we believe others feel the same way, are not conquered province, not for sale. Asari Dokubo must not use Izon communities as a bargain chip to advance his selfish interest."

Also, kinsmen of President Goodluck Jonathan under the aegis of the Ogbia Brotherhood Youth Council (OBYC), carpeted Dokubo on his declaration of Biafra Customary government.

The National President, OBYC, Comrade Napuru Bassuo, who spoke in an interview, said if anything else, the Ijaw would only support the declaration of a Niger Delta Republic not Biafra Customary Government.

He stated: “As Ijaw people from Ogbia extraction in the Niger Delta, we do not subscribe to the declaration made by Dokubo-Asari on the constitution of Biafra Customary Government.

“There’s no gainsaying that Dokubo-Asari’s alliance has never been supported by the Ijaws not in Bayelsa nor any part of Ijaw land. For as long as we know, the Ijaws belong to the Niger Delta’s cause and no land of the Niger Delta or Ogbia land will be a territory of Biafra Customary Government.

“And by this I mean Dokubo-Asari is a loner on this journey. If for nothing, we the Ijaws will only support the declaration of a NDR and not BCG.”

Former presidential candidate and elder statesman, Bashir Othman Tofa, has warned the Nigerian government not to ignore the proclamation of a Biafra Customary Government made by the leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Force, Asari Dokubo.

Dokubo had earlier declared himself as the leader of BCG, adding that provincial structures would be set up for the government.

File Photo

But the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had described the declaration as ‘theatre of the absurd by a joker seeking attention'.

Reacting to this development, Tofa, in an interview with Daily Trust, said, “Alhaji Asari Dokubo may be considered as a joker by the unwise. What if his utterance is only an early stage in a larger plan? Threats to this country should not be taken as a joke.”

He said he wondered if the government would have maintained such a position if it had been someone from the North who said a fraction of what Dokubo said.

Tofa, who was a candidate for the National Republican Convention candidate June 12, 1993 presidential election, also said zoning was detrimental to the unity of the country.

Tofa said, “It is the sign of backwardness to continue propagating a divisive presidency, rather than the one that will serve all Nigerians equally and justly,” adding that the blame for this backwardness was on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said, “The PDP started this foolish idea. They have damaged the political climate of this country while thinking it was for the best. Now it has become what may destroy this country if care is not taken.”

He also said there was nothing wrong with the idea of the presidential candidate and vice presidential candidate of a party to be from the same religion as was the case in 1993 when Chief MKO Abiola and Baba Gana Kingibe (Muslims) ran on the ticket of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Tofa, however, said Nigeria “is now too polarised for the Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christian ticket to be dared by any party.”
