The Nigeria Police Force has postponed the scheduled parade of suspected killers of Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, former Chief of Defence Staff.

The Force had earlier stated that it would present the suspects before newsmen on Thursday.

Badeh was shot on December 18, 2018, on his way back from his farm. See Also Breaking News BREAKING: Former Chief Of Defence Staff Alex Badeh Shot Dead

Jimoh Moshood, Force Public Relations Officer, made the disclosure on Thursday in Abuja, stating that suspects were arrested in connection with the crime.

According to NAN, Moshood said the decision to postpone the presentation of the suspects to the media so as not to jeopardise the ongoing investigation.

“It is of significance to note that the presentation of the two suspects and the three other gang members will not come up today so as not to jeopardise the ongoing investigation. The two suspects arrested actively participated in the killing of the former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh. The public should also know that the investigation into the killing is being intensified to arrest other suspects who are still at large," he said.

He also added that “The force will not relent and will leave no stone unturned in getting to the root of the killing and bringing all perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice".

Ayodele Fayose, immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, has queried President Muhammadu Buhari on the decision to flag off the campaign for his reelection in Akwa Ibom.

He also accused the President of making "only phone calls" to the state, which has been the hotbed of killings in recent times.

According to Fayose, Buhari should have chosen Zamfara, Yobe or Borno for his campaign flag-off, rather than the "peaceful Akwa Ibom".

He stated this in a tweet that read: "Nigerians are being killed in Zamfara, President Buhari could only make 'phone calls'. But he is going to Akwa Ibom, a state made peaceful by the PDP Govt of @MrUdomEmmanuel to flag off his campaign. Why can't he do the flag off in Zamfara, Yobe or Borno?"

Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State, says no amount of blackmail and propaganda will alter the termination of sale of valued state assets to Sahara Energy Limited.

He said the termination of sale of valued state assets to Sahara Energy followed due process, and called on those aggrieved to seek redress in court.

He spoke on Wednesday during the 2018 Ogbakor Etche December Convention at Obiri Etche, Umugwu, Okehi in Port Harcourt.

"No amount of blackmail will change the situation. The courts are there for them to seek redress. Rivers and Lagos States are not the same. No single man can dictate what happens in Rivers State. We have different ethnic groups and culture," Wike said.

"The Rivers State Government was not vindictive in terminating the sale of valued state assets to Sahara Energy Limited. One company used three subsidiaries to illegally acquire state assets. If there was any vindictiveness, it was on the part of those who used the state government to deny Rivers people their valued state assets."

According to Wike, the Rivers State Government resolved to implement the White Paper on the recommendations of the Justice Omereji Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the sale of valued state assets, because there is no stay of execution stopping the administration.

He also said Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State, lost at the High Court and Court of Appeal when he tried to stop the implementation of the recommendations of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry, noting that the Minister of Transportation and his business partner illegally bought over state assets with the plot to install Tonye Cole, Rivers governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the purchase of more state assets.

"Rivers people have come to know that only one person bought all their assets. He came and took what belongs to the entire state. Now they want to acquire more," he said.

Wike also said he would continue to support Etche ethnic nationality and develop their communities through key projects.

He said his administration will complete the State Sports Academy and all ongoing road projects in Etche to further enhance the economy of the area. The Governor said more than any other administration in the past, he has executed key projects in the area.

In the build-up to the 2019 general election in Nigeria, presidential candidate of Action Democratic Party (ADP), Yabagi Sani has met with party leaders of the United Kingdom Conservative Party in London.

Sani also met with British investors and spoke with them on investing more in Nigeria to further boost the Nigeria's economy.

Speaking after his return to Nigeria, Sani stated that political parties in the country must model party activities like that of the developed country if Nigeria is to experience true democracy and massive economic development.

“If you look at the UK, things are working well there; the institutions of government respect law and humanity; the political parties adhere to the rules of engagement; they don't breed political thugs nor allow the subversion of people's will. These are things we must first of all tackle if we want Nigeria to work for all of us, and this is the reason our party is looking at a 'New Direction', because we cannot continue to do same thing same way all the time and expect another result," Sani said.

The ADP presidential candidate noted that his party is in collaborative talks with UK’s Conservative Party, adding that the Conservative Party will assist by providing technical support and capacity building to ADP.

Condemning the current crop of politicians in the country, Sani said: “The political and socio-economic activities in Nigeria have not been for the benefit of the people. We must find a way to change that, and by implication, we must start the reform and orientation shift from our political parties.”

According to him, his visit to the United Kingdom is one of many where he is working to bring investors to Nigeria if he emerges as the next president.

The presidential hopeful was recently awarded by the United Nations for his contribution to the political and socio-economic activities in Nigeria.

The serene atmosphere of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos degenerated into chaos on Wednesday evening, as the German airline, Lufthansa, cancelled its flight abruptly.

The airline also dragged its feet in its decision to accommodate stranded passengers in a hotel, as recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), and some of the passengers had to depart the airport in annoyance.

The passengers, numbering more than 300, who had come to the airport to catch the late night flight out of Lagos to Frankfurt, Germany and other destinations were taken aback when it was discovered that the flight had been cancelled.

Some of them with children lamented that they were not notified of the cancellation of the flight.

At the time of filing this report, the reason for the cancellation could not be ascertained, but a source close to the airline attributed it to “technical failure".

The remaining passengers insisted they had nowhere else to spend the night, and had to be booked into a hotel with the promise that they would board their flights on Thursday.

One of the affected passengers, who gave her name as Mrs. Lateefat Abdulateef, claimed that the airline did not inform them prior to the cancellation.

She also alleged that the counter staff of the airline did not provide the passengers with any information on the cancelled flight, adding that before some of them could be put in a hotel, they had to protest their poor treatment by the airline, while others who resided in Lagos or could get cheap hotel accommodation, had to leave in annoyance.

Lamenting the situation, Abdulateef said: “The way and manner some of these foreign airlines treat Nigerians is unfathomable. We were here with the plan to leave Nigeria to various destinations, but to our surprise, we could not depart as planned. It was late at night that we discovered we won’t be travelling as scheduled. This can happen to anyone, especially if it is has to do with safety, but the annoyance of everyone was that the airline refused to provide hotel accommodation for the passengers.

“Some of us had to leave angrily, while others were prepared to spend the night at the airport, but early this morning, the few remaining passengers were booked into a hotel. Till now, no one has told us why we did not fly yesterday and we have the fear that there might be a spillover as those expected to travel today will also come to the airport.”

Lufthansa operates daily flights from Frankfurt to Lagos. It is not clear if the stranded passengers would be airlifted today.

Attempts to get the officials of the airline to comment proved abortive as our correspondent was referred to its headquarters in Germany.

The remains of four residents killed by armed bandits at Nassarawa Gödel, being prepared for burial in the community in Zamfara State

A human rights group, Save Nigeria Coalition (SNC), has condemned the recent attacks in Zamfara State where close to hundred people lost their lives and millions of properties detroyed.

In a statement obtained by SaharaReporters, the group stated that the attacks was "very troubling and baffling as innocent persons were murdered in their prime".

Comrade Yusuf Msheliza, National Convener of the group, who signed the statement, accused politicians of being behind the attacks.

Msheliza, however, appealed to the Nigerian Government to call the state governor and his associates to order before the situation gets out of hand in Zamfara State.

The statement read: "Here is a state that was peaceful and set to becoming a replacement of economic hub for what the country has lost in the Borno State axis where farming and fishing in the Lake Chad Basin have been disrupted by terrorists. The same Zamfara State has now metamorphosed into a killing field where unknown killers are now on rampage.

"We of course acknowledged that the state in the past had occasional incidents of cattle rustling and incidents of robberies like any other part of the country or even other countries of the world. The state graduating to banditry on an industrial scale was quite a surprise, but the surprise was only up till the time that information has now trickled out to provide details about how the political bigwigs in the state have been stoking the fire of banditry, especially upon their rejection by their party members as flag bearers in the 2019 elections.

"There is no point dilly dallying about what we have found out. The upsurge in banditry is politically masterminded by the Zamfara State Governor Yari. The governor, unfortunately, is supported by some All Progressives Congress (APC) members in his camp. These elements who lost out in the primaries are embittered that they were unable to get tickets as candidates. It is no coincidence that bandits have gone on killing spree since they lost out.

"Nigerians will therefore not tolerate a situation where politicians, irrespective of whether they lost primary elections, release killers in the guise of bandits to create another security threat for the country."

The group also asked the governor and his supporters in the APC to respect the sanctity of life and ensure they find the people behind the attacks with a view of bringing them to book.

The statement continued: "They must also publicly renounce violence in any guise in addition to distancing themselves from acts that amount to endorsing violence as the answer when the permutation does not favour them. The governors of the neighbouring states must do their part, which would in a way reassure Nigerians that they are not part of the political syndicate that is encouraging bandits to launch attacks against communities in the area.

"We urge the Federal Government to step into the situation before it gets out of hand. While the state governor presently enjoys immunity, his aides that do not enjoy immunity and found to be complicit in the banditry related killings in the state must be shown the full wrath of the law.

"Again, we warn that we must not have another Boko Haram in the country before steps are taken to bring those behind the carnage in Zamfara to book."

Fans of Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, some of whom had paid as much as N5million to see the singer perform, were unhappy as the show which was said to have been scheduled to start at 7pm did not start until about 12am.

On Thursday morning at Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Burna Boy joined the list of Nigerian artistes who start their shows behind schedule. As early as 5pm on Wednesday, fans had started trooping into the Eko Hotels and Suites venue of the 'Burna Live' concert.

SaharaReporters observed that the ticketing accrediation process slowed down the pace at which fans gained entrance into the hall. By 9pm, the hall was still scanty as fans were still outside accrediting their ticket passes.

At 12am when SaharaReporters stepped into the hall, the show proper was yet to start as hypeman, Shody and Jimmie were having a field day keeping the audience entertained, while DJ Consequence also played some songs.

As fans waited anxiously for the show to start, artistes like Kida Kudz, Boj, Funbi, Show Dem Camp, among others did their best to entertain the audience. This went on till about 2am when it was announced that Burna Boy would mount the stage soon. As the crowd, which by this time was getting impatient, heard this, chants of "Boo" rent the air.

Eventually, Burna Boy climbed on the stage at exactly 2:17am on Thursday morning. Although the arrival of the singer brought joy to expectant crowd, the singer himself did not seem too pleased with the fact that his set had been tampered with.

According to the singer, a short skit was supposed to be played which will usher him into the stage, but due to some reasons he had to cut it out and get on stage. SaharaReporters observed that the singer struggled through his first performance as it was obvious he was not really happy with the organisation of the event. The skit was later played during the part of the show.

The singer apologised to fans and not too long after, the fans cheered the singer and the show continued.

Also present at the event included Tuface, Wande Coal, DBanj, Wizkid, Davido, Duncan Mighty, among others.

Fans also took to social media to express their reservations.

@IretiolaDoyle wrote: "Don't matter how much I love the music, when you say 7pm and you don't show till 2am the next morning, it kills the vibe and is just plain disrespectful."
