Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has said he is considering running for President in 2023.

He made the comment on Friday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

He said, “Nigerians, the youth and women, and all Nigerians, including very objective elites are asking me to run for President in 2023.

“And I believe it is high time that we look into capacity, who can do the job, who is going to unify this country. And I think they are seeing something in me that they are asking me to come and unite and fix this country."

However, his comment has attracted reactions from a cross-section of Nigerians, who have asked him to define the distributive determiner 'All' as used in his statement.

SaharaReporters observed that the EF Education site described 'All' as “A distributive determiner used to talk about a whole group, with a special emphasis on the fact that nothing has been left out."

The reactions trailing Bello's comment has proved he has not earned the endorsement of Nigerians as he claimed.

Williams Olufemi said, “This one that could not bridge communities in Kogi. Nonsense. Few days after commissioning of a bridge, the story was a collapse.”

A Twitter user @TundeEddnut wrote, “'All Nigerians have been asking me to run for President in 2023.' – Yahaya Bello, Kogi State Governor. Abeg who are the 'All Nigerians' Joker!"

@QueenKhendra tweeted, “Ah, better make them leave the seat vacant in 2023 than make this Yahaya Bello come. God forbid bad thing. Affliction shall not rise the third time. But wait, who else noticed Seun's facial expression?”

@onyiforlife wrote, “Yahaya Bello dey mad... When, where? the youth and women, and all Nigerians, including very objective elites are asking me to run for President in 2023. Governor of the thugs!”

At the time of filing this report, the real cause of the crisis could not be ascertained as residents of the town were scampering for safety.

It was gathered that armed hoodlums, numbering about 30, stormed the house of one Wakili Olayiwola and started shooting indiscriminately.

A Toyota corolla car belonging to the 42-year-old man was burnt down in the house and the hoodlums also attempted to raze down the building.

Policemen arrived at the scene on time and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel and the policemen eventually overpowered the hoodlums.

The PPRO gave the names of the suspects as Suleiman Babatunde, Saka Taofeek, Raimi Saheed, Akinloye Quwiyu and Sadio Alatise.

The Police’s spokesperson said the hoodlums killed two persons, Rilwan Kareem and Taofeek Aje.

The Chinese did not build their prosperous country by abandoning ship when it was turbulent. In fact, it was at a time of great tribulation and uncertainty that the Chinese forged the path for a glorious future. The successful nations today hurdled through moments of topsy-turvy in their history. The strongest steel is forged in the hottest fire. If we abandon Nigeria in its time of adversity, who will save it?

Nigerians want a better country, but some are unwilling to work for it. The buck is passed, traded and discarded. There is always someone else to blame for the societal hebetudes. We await a messiah who by the wave of his wand will magic all our troubles away.  We hang on to the illusion that someone somewhere will begin to put humpty-dumpty together. We wait for Godot.

Fredrick Nwabufo

A better Nigeria begins with me. It begins with you. It begins with us. We cannot outsource the development of our country. We must put our hands on the wheel to move it forward. We only make the country we deserve. The Chinese did not entrust their development to the Americans or anyone. Singaporeans as well did not consign their progress to any external agency. They built their country through tempest and hailstorm.

Nevertheless, the place of leadership in the progress of these countries is unimpeachable. For China, the leadership tapestry of Mao Zedong saw the country evolve from an agrarian economy to an industrial nucleus. In the case of Singapore, the reformist deportment of Lee Kuan Yew is a classical story. Yes, we cannot excuse the place of leadership in transforming society.

However, leaders are not made on Mars. They come from the community pool – with the same flaws and contours as everyone else. A society only gets the leaders it deserves. When a people select certain persons to steer their affairs among a cluster of choices, they are not inculpable when their leadership option fails. The led is as guilty as the leader.

No one is without blemish in the rotting of Nigeria. In our small stations, we contribute to the rot. In Abuja, it is usual to see foreigners in vehicles with diplomatic licence plates beat traffic lights. A video of a purported diplomat peeing on our road rippled on social media at the weekend. These people cannot conduct themselves in such an abhorrent manner in their own countries. But we are bad examples. ‘’The Nigerian way of anything goes’’ taints even the pristine. We must set the right examples from top to bottom.

Again, no one is coming to save the night. No one is coming to save us. If we all elect to abandon Nigeria at this moment of trial, what happens to our kith and kin who cannot afford to escape the country? Our roots in Nigeria are deep and run through the core of the earth. We cannot yank off the radicles without hurting ourselves.

A better Nigeria begins with me. Our Plan B should not be to leave Nigeria in the kerb. Nigeria is salvageable. The traditional crotchets of inveterate pessimists and disbelievers in the Nigeria project are that only a rupturing of the entity can save its peoples. But this is an escapist’s way of avoiding responsibility to do the actual task of building the country.

Nigeria is our collective responsibility. We all have an equal share in the task of nation-building. We must begin and not stop crocheting the national fabric. Nigeria is not an option. Nigeria is the option.

Nation-building cannot succeed in vacancy of the citizens. Nation-building is largely citizenship building. And really, the process starts with those we elect into office. If we elect leaders on the shade of their religious and ethnic complexions or some provincial permutations, do we expect them to protect the interest of all Nigerians or of only those with the same native identities? We have to do better. What we give is what we receive. We cannot make appreciable progress if religion and ethnicity remain the in situ conditions for electing leaders in Nigeria.

So, it all comes back to us. A better Nigeria begins with me. Theodore Roosevelt, 26th US president, famously said: "The first requisite of a good citizen in this republic of ours is that he shall be able and willing to pull his own weight." Ralph Nader, American activist and author, expressed my sentiments when he said: "There can be no daily democracy without daily citizenship." By the same token, Paul Collier, award-winning author, when he said: “You are a citizen, and citizenship carries responsibilities.”

We can only create a better country if we work at it. Citizenship is a right that comes with a burden. Why should we resort to ‘’Plan B’’ and abandon our country to those who will gut it and discard its carcass? Nigeria is worth fighting for.

Nigeria needs fixing. We are the fix.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to track down Yau Kumo, a former Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) for his alleged involvement in the $65 million (N31 billion) fraud.

The main opposition party urged the commission not to succumb to pressure from the cabal in the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency.

Kumi had been been declared wanted by the commission alongside his accomplices.

The party said the involvement of President Buhari’s son in-law, confirmed that Buhari Presidency was indeed a sanctuary for fraudsters, treasury looters and common criminals.

The PDP, in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, said, "It speaks volumes that the Buhari Presidency had remained silent in the face of this huge fraud involving Mr. President's son in-law; a beneficiary of the primitive family patronage in the Buhari administration, only for certain members of the cabal to be reportedly mounting pressure on the ICPC to let him off the hook."

The PDP holds as wicked, afflicting and provocative that while millions of hard-working Nigerians cannot afford their daily meals and other basic necessities of life due to the misrule and corruption of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its administration, they are daily assailed by revelations of unbridled treasury looting under President Buhari's watch. "Is it not provocative that at the time the Buhari administration is moving to cut  workers' salaries; increase the cost of fuel, electricity and other tariffs; in a country with over 33 percent unemployment rate and where citizens have been subjected to the worst forms of poverty; government officials, cronies and relations of those in power are busy looting our agencies and carting away our common patrimony?

"It is even more distressing that the looted FMBN money is part of funds contributed by Nigerians to meet their home needs which have instead fallen under the predatory proclivities of the APC  administration," the party said.

The PDP asserted that Nigerians can now see that while the Buhari Presidency parades a "holier than thou attitude,” the nation’s vaults have been laid open for ruthless pillaging by family members, relations, and cronies in the Buhari Presidency.

The party said: "Only last week, the nation was jolted by reports of the looting of over N165 billion in the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) under the suspended Managing Director, Hadiza Bala Usman and the purview of the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Ameachi, leading to widespread demand for their sacking and prosecution.

"This is in addition to the alleged involvement of the wife of the Transportation Minister, Mrs. Edith Amaechi, in the reported N48 billion contract scam currently rocking the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

"Indeed, this APC administration stinks!"

The PDP urged the Presidency to allow for an open investigation of Buhari's son in-law as well as those fingered in the fraud in the NPA and the NDDC.

The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria has shut down 424 illegal pharmacies and patent medicine shops within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The registrar of the council, Pharmacist Elijah Mohammed, disclosed this on Friday while briefing newsmen in Abuja.

Represented by the Director, Enforcement of the agency, Pharmacist Stephen Esumobi, he said 99 pharmacies and 325 patent medicine shops were sealed out of a total of 644 premises visited during the enforcement exercise at the beginning of the week.

He said: “At the end of the enforcement exercise, a total of 644 premises comprising 216 pharmacies and 428 patent medicine shops were visited.

“A total of 424 premises made up of 99 pharmacies and 325 patent medicine shops were sealed.”

He said they were sealed for various offences ranging from operating without registration with the PCN, failure to renew premises license, dispensing ethical products without the supervision of a pharmacist, poor storage and sanitary conditions, among others.

Mohammed said a major factor militating against rational distribution and use of medicines in Nigeria is the existence of unregistered medicine shops across the country, adding that most of them were operated by traders who know nothing about the therapeutic or pharmacokinetic profiles of the medicines they sell to the public.

He said illegal premises pose a serious threat to public health because they have over the years become channels for distributing medicines whose quality, safety and efficacy have been compromised due to poor storage facilities and handling.

A young lady identified as Blessing Godwin has narrated how she escaped being a victim of Uduak Frank Akpan, the prime suspect in the murder of late Akwa Ibom Job seeker, Iniubong Umoren.

Frank Akpan on Friday confessed to killing Iniubong, claiming they had consensual sex but many Nigerians have dismissed his account, saying it could easily be deduced that she was raped and killed.

In a Facebook post, Godwin explained how Uduak had contacted her after she applied for a job opening he posted on a site.

According to her, she was unable to go for the interview because Uduak had not given her feedback but received a call some days later from someone on social media asking if she had a telephone conversation with Uduak.

The young lady said she was initially confused but got the full idea when she went through an investigative report by News Wire media.

She wrote, “My Testimony. God has done me well, that is why I don't want to hide it. I have come to testify publicly to the Glory of God and to the shame of the devil.

“28th April 2021: I was attending an Affiliate Marketing class on a friend's WhatsApp status around 7 pm. The class had been on for about three days. On that day, he taught us about platforms where affiliate marketing thrive and he made mention of Jiji.ng as one of the platforms. See Also CRIME #JusticeForHinyHumoren: Outrage As Nigerians React To Prime Suspect's Account, Say Killer Not Remorseful

“It's a link so I clicked on it and it took me to the site. I was still scrolling through when I saw a job opening at a hotel at Delta State. The offer came with a very attractive salary and accommodation too.

“Since I am unemployed and I was still searching for what to do to keep the body and soul together. I applied for the job immediately using my email address. I went back to his status and completed the Affiliate Marketing class for that day.

“29th April 2021: At 1:21pm, I got a call from a number which is not on my contact list asking if I am Blesky Godwin, I told him yes, that I am Blessing Godwin. He corrected me and told me that when applying for something official, I should use my name and not some unofficial name.

“I immediately recalled that I applied for a job using my email the previous day. I told him it appeared that way on his end because I used my email address and that is my email username. He said it was okay.

“He asked if I was good with computer, I told him that 'I try'. He said ok, that there is a farm along Airport Road that needs a secretary for immediate employment and he asked if I was interested. I told him yes and he asked if I could meet him at Airport Road immediately.

“I told him it wasn't possible because I was at Ibeno which is quite far from Uyo, he said he knew. I asked if we could reschedule the meeting for another day, and he obliged.

"He said I should send my CV to him on WhatsApp and I should save his number as Ezekiel. After the call ended, I saved his number as 'Ezekiel Job' on my phone then I went to forward my CV from my email to WhatsApp but I couldn't. I told him I couldn't forward it to WhatsApp that he should send his email address to me so I could send it to his mail which he did and I forwarded my CV to him.

“I chatted him up and asked if he had seen it, he said no and then I sent it again and asked him for the second time which he said he had. After a while, I didn't hear from him again, so I chatted him up. I typed 'Hello' and I told him that he hasn't said anything since I forwarded the CV to him. He did not reply again. I want to believe that by this time, Ini Umoren must have arrived the venue and he was probably 'busy' trying to end her life. See Also Breaking News BREAKING: How I Killed Akwa Ibom Job Seeker, Iniubong Umoren—Frank Akpan Narrates

“Since that day, I didn't hear from him again and as God would have it, I totally forgot about him and his secretary job. On that same day, I had the strong urge to praise God. I didn't know what for (I'm not saying there has to be a reason before we can praise God). The feeling was so strong. I just went on my WhatsApp and typed...'Jesus loves me. But the problem is I don't know why.'

“On the next slide, I typed... ’God why, why are you so mindful of small me?’ ‘I am undeserving of your love in every meaning of the word undeserving but yet you still choose to love me'. 'Thank you Lord for Loving me the way you do'. Sincerely, I felt the urge to worship God, I felt He did something really big for me but I didn't know what it was.

“My friend, Fortunate Marvie even had to ask me to share the testimony, of which I told her I didn't have any yet but she would be the first to know once it happened.

“On 11th May 2021, I received a call from a friend asking me if the guy that raped and killed Ini Umoren called me. I was angry and baffled at the same time because I didn't understand why he would ask me if a murderer called me.

“I asked him why he asked that, he said he saw an investigative news report on Facebook that contained my name as one of the persons the Uduak guy called. I asked him if I was the only Blessing Godwin in Nigeria. He asked if I don't remember receiving any call from someone like that on 29th April.

“Slowly, I began remembering that someone invited me for an interview at Airport Road but i wasn't sure of the date, so I told him it might be him or not. He told me the Uduak guy called me after he spoke to Ini Umoren. He also mentioned the time and the minutes we talked for. Mehnnnnnn I was scared. I told him I would confirm from my call list. We ended the call on a nice note.

“At this time, I didn't remember the name he (the interview guy) gave me, so I randomly scrolled down to my call list till I got to 29th April and I saw Ezekiel job then I remembered he asked me to save his name as Ezekiel.

“I was still in shock trying to process all the information when I received a call from another friend of mine that told me to check my messenger that he had dropped a link to a job opening for me, I told him ok and went ahead to check it on messenger. I clicked on the link which led me to Kufre Carter's timeline.

“As I scrolled down, I saw the post which my name was mentioned right under the job opening post. I abandoned the job opening post and read the one that carried my name. It was there I realised that the Uduak guy is the same Ezekiel that called me for the job interview.

“The number on the post was the same number that called me that afternoon. The date he called was the same as in the post. The time he called was the same as in the post. The minutes we spoke for was the same as in the post.

“Men and brethren I couldn't help but shed hot tears. My thoughts travelled far and wide. All I did was to imagine what would have become of me if I had gone for the interview.

“Maybe it would have been Justice for Ini and Justice for Blessing. How would my parents take the news? How would my siblings take the news? How would my friends take the news? How would my enemies take the news? I shed hot tears.

”Then again, I imagined, just maybe, if he had succeeded in raping and killing Ini without the friend raising an alarm and his evil being exposed, I would have certainly been the next victim. He would have probably called me up the next week and I would go because I need a job and that would have been the end of me.

“All I can do right now is to thank God. I don't only want to thank Him in private but I want to thank Him in public. I don't know what would have become of me if God didn't show up in the situation. Thank you for loving me the way you do. Even in my unfaithfulness, you still choose to love me, thank you Lord.

“I don't deserve this love but yet you still love me. Thank you Lord. I am grateful. I don't take this for granted, Lord. Thank you Jesus. Please if I ever mean anything to do, help me thank God for my life.

“Ini Umoren was just an innocent girl looking for a job. She didn't deserve rape and murder as a reward for her job search. I pray that God grant her family the fortitude to bear this great loss. Rest in Peace Ini-Obong.”

Nigerians on social media have started reacting to the account of Uduak Akpan, the prime suspect in the murder of slain Akwa Ibom Job seeker, Iniubong Umoren, who was paraded on Friday before pressmen.

SaharaReporters earlier reported how the Akwa Ibom State Police Command paraded Akpan, the suspected killer to dismiss rumour of his death in custody.

The suspect who was paraded alongside his father said he killed the girl in self-defence and not intentionally.

"I invited her for a job and I asked her whether she can work on a farm as secretary. I told her that I wanted to sleep with her first. She agreed on a condition that I will use a condom which I also agreed to. She became furious when I started removing the condom, and she attacked me. I was bleeding so I needed to defend myself by hitting her which lead to her death," he said.

He claimed she used a nearby stabiliser to hit him in the "head and bit me on my left hand finger.

"While I was bleeding, in a bid to stop her, I used the stabiliser to hit her and when I hit her, she fell and started bleeding and thereafter, she died."

However, the state commissioner of police, Andrew Amiengheme, said it was necessary to have the press conference because of the rumour that was going around in the media that the suspect had committed suicide in the cell.

"I don't know anywhere in the world that a suspect will be allowed to use trousers in the cell to the extent of killing himself with it.

"Social media that is supposed to be a tool that will work to the advantage of the police has become something that is working against them," he said.

But Akpan's account has attracted outrage on social media as many Nigerians have described his story as false and scripted.

Some tweeps described the saga as some sort of conspiracy by ‘higher powers' to cover up the murder case.

Many also questioned the demeanour of the suspect, after he confessed to committing the crime. Some social media users opined that he was not remorseful as he looked calm and relaxed.

Others questioned the ‘executive treatment' the suspect got, relating it to the sitting position while many described the parade as ‘a press conference'.

Many Nigerians have also paid attention to the inscription on the shirt of the suspect which reads, ”The mudder squad," saying as a murder suspect, he showed audacity to have won such a T-shirt. Many people also noted that he was treated better by the police than #EndSARS protesters, arrested and killed for having peaceful processions.

Little is being said of his father who was paraded alongside him.

Journalists at the parade were also accused of unprofessionalism as a result of the questions asked.

A Twitter user, @2014Orji said, “The story/narratives will keep changing with each new day until their main objective (mutilating the truth beyond recognition) is achieved in the end. But you know what? God pass man! The law enforcers might fail her, but the supreme Judge will deliver His final verdict with time.”

Another user, @gwenshuga stated, “There’s a conspiracy in this whole set-up. Self-defence when you have invited 6 different girls, why is he still alive?”

@GbolahanObadime tweeted, “When did farm job interview turn to sex practice? Was it also in self-defence he buried her without informing the police? We demand an accelerated hearing of his case & the case be concluded within three months of commencement and six months to appeal & the supreme court. He killed a dream."

@adegbolaodugbesi said, “Was there even a farm job? Not to talk of demanding sex for work. Sexual exploitation, assault, kidnapping, assassination, concealment of evidence, connivance & collusion to conceal evidence. I feel this guy committed an intentional and premeditated murder. #JusticeforHinyHumoren."

@_thedreamdaily wrote, “#JusticeforHinyHumoren. The quality of QUE our colleagues asked alleged rapist/murderer Uduak Akpan today left much to be desired. Practically led the suspect to slut-shame the victim & impugn on her modesty and she can never exercise her right of reply! It is a sad day to be a journalist in Nigeria.”

@AishatRamos tweeted, “I knew it was going to be hard to get justice, the very day the news of her death broke, the police representative said at a point 'as a matter of fact she was the one that hit him first'. #JusticeforHinyHumoren.”

@OpeQuadri, “See Uduak Akpan how clean he looks in police custody despite the horrid condition of police cells. #JusticeforHinyHumoren.”

A tweep, @Mmachi_m tweeted, “What is this? A coordinated script is being played here. They are now trying to paint Hiny as someone she's not. That Frank and the people behind him will never know peace. #JusticeforHinyHumoren.”

@ObasiFoundation said, “Just look at the inscription on his shirt 'The Mudder Squad'. Walahi this hardened killer doesn't & didn't work alone. I don't know why the CP is defending him as he knows him before. There's so much still hidden but we must keep putting pressure to get #JusticeforHinyHumoren.”

@AdeHardemola wrote, “I used to think the system was corrupt but in the face of this Umoren case and The Mudder Squad, the system is murderous.
#JusticeforHinyHumoren.”

The Sokoto Police Command has rescued a 12-year-old girl, Joy Emmanuel, from solitary confinement of eight months.

The girl was said to have been caged for that period by her guardians identified as Emmanuel Basey and his wife Esther Emmanuel at the Sokoto Cinema area in Sokoto North Local Government Area.

File photo used to illustrate story.

Joy was also said to have been starved.

It was gathered that the couple claimed “she is mentally unstable” but were later proven otherwise by the police.

The spokesman for the Sokoto State Police Command, Sanusi Abubakar, said the girl was rescued on Thursday while the suspects were arrested and detained at the Dadin Kowa police station.

“They kept the girl in a cage at their compound and starved her of food for eight months.

“When our men broke the door of the cage, the girl was too frail to walk because she was emaciated.

“We met her in a very horrible situation, urinating and excreting inside the cage.

“The girl was taken to the specialist’s hospital for treatment,” he said told Daily Trust.

He said that both the victim and the suspects would be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person and other Related Matters for further action.
