Air Peace is a private Nigerian airline that I’ve been fascinated by. The airline has been flying since 2013 primarily as a regional airline, though just a couple of weeks ago launched their first long haul flight to Sharjah in the UAE. The airline has big expansion plans, and wants to add flights to Guangzhou, Houston, and London.
A lot of questions have been raised about the safety of flying with Air Peace, though. The Accident Investigation Bureau of Nigeria has admonished the airline for failing to report accidents and serious incidents on multiple occasions, and for overwriting cockpit voice recorders to conceal evidence.
First of all, Twitter…
Before I talk too much about Air Peace, can I point out how epic the Accident Investigation Bureau of Nigeria Twitter account is?
On their official Twitter account they posted video footage of the guy climbing onto the wing of a departing plane (which I wrote about several days ago), and hashtagged it with:

An unidentifeid man climbed a plane about to depart at MMIA, left a bag in the engine and the delayed activities for 30mins. He was finally apprehended by the security and all passengers disembarked from the flight. #aviation #FridayFeeling #MMIA #LionKing2019 #TheGift pic.twitter.com/JUN6VYV50m

Seriously?! I can’t decide whether to shake my head, or laugh to the point that I have tears in my eyes.
And yep, also gotta love that #FridayMotivation!

Air Peace has yet another safety incident…
Back to Air Peace. Airfleets says that the airline has a fleet of a dozen 737s, though looking at flight tracking only four of them have flown in the past several weeks.
Since mid-May, there have been three incidents involving these planes, which is rather concerning.
On May 15, 2019, an Air Peace 737 flying from Port Harcourt to Lagos had a hard landing that resulted in damage to the engine pod and the landing gear (Air Peace didn’t initially report this incident to authorities).
Then on June 22, 2019, an Air Peace 737 flying from Abuja to Port Harcourt ended up off the runway due to heavy rain, and came to a rest in soft mud.
Air Peace Boeing 737-500 skidded off runway at Port Harcourt Airport during heavy rain.
Today there’s yet another incident, as an Air Peace 737 lost a tire while landing in Lagos.
An Airpeace flight lost a tire while landing in Lagos, no life was lost. The Bureau investigators are on the way to the site. #safety #Lagos #Airport pic.twitter.com/v9K6XSs5o1

Details are still emerging about what happened today, though the good news is that there weren’t any fatalities.
So while none of these incidents were fatal, it sure is concerning when such a small airline has so many things happen in a short period.
By the way, Air Peace had another 737 incident late last year, so here’s a very odd interview with the CEO where he explains what happens. It basically boils down to “of course Air Peace is safe, our pilots don’t want to die!”
Tanko Yakasai, a founding member of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has said there are fantastically corrupt persons in President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial list.
Buhari, on Tuesday, sent a list of 43 ministerial nominees to the senate, seeking their confirmation.
Speaking on the ministerial list in Kano on Tuesday, Yakasai said the list makes a mockery of the president's anti-corruption war.
He said the returning ministers might not be able to do anything differently from what they did during Buhari's first term in office.
He said, “The new ministerial list submitted by the president to the senate is representative enough, but the nomination of certain people perceived to be fantastically corrupt made a mockery of the president’s war against corruption. See Also

“The fact remains that the returnees are many means that the policy of the new government will not be much different from that of the outgoing.
“My only observation is that since the majority of the nominees are already known to the president his delay in submitting a ministerial nomination is unjustifiable.”
But Abdulrahman Sumaila, former Special Adviser to Buhari on legislative matters, countered Yakassai's submission by saying the ministerial list reflects competence and credibility.
Speaking with journalists in Kano, Sumaila debunked allegations of corruption and lopsidedness on the list, saying the president has fulfilled his constitutional responsibility by ensuring each geopolitical zone has a representative on the list. See Also

He said, “Remember the president has said he will only appoint a person he is familiar with and that’s what he did.
“Those on the list are capable hands well known to the president especially those from Kano, Alhaji Sabo Nanono, a traditional title holder and illustrious farmer and Major General Magashi.
“And those saying the president’s list is not balanced are not aware of the constitutional right of the president. The constitution says the president should appoint one person each from the states which he did.
Again the president has the prerogative to appoint any other persons from anywhere.”

The Islamic Movement of Nigeria has denied the claim by the Nigeria Police Force that it attacked its personnel and innocent Nigerians during Monday's clash, insisting that its members do not carry arms.
The Shiites said this in reacting to a claim by the police that its member shot and killed Deputy Commissioner of Police, Umar Umar while two others sustained injury.
Frank Mba, Police Spokesperson, had said, “The heavily armed protesters, defying all sense of decency violently attacked innocent citizens and police personnel on duty. In the process, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, FCT Command, DCP Usman A.K Umar, was shot and fatally injured by the protesters.
“The officer, who was immediately rushed to the hospital died moments later while receiving treatment.
“Also, two (2) Assistant Superintendents of Police and a member of staff of Channels Television sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment.”
