The number of people affected by the Coronavirus in the United States of America has risen to seven.

US health officials also said that a person from Illinois infected with the Coronavirus in China has transmitted the virus to her spouse, marking the first known instance of person-to-person spread of the virus in the US.

“Our assessment remains that the immediate risk to the American public is low,” CDC Director, Robert Redfield, maintained.

As of Thursday, health officials have recorded more than 8,200 infections of the new virus, with the figure set to be increasing.

The US has declared the virus a case of national emergency in the country.

Three of the four Catholic seminarians kidnapped by gunmen in Kaduna State have been released.

The gunmen had stormed the Catholic Good Shepherd Major Seminary Kakau in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State and kidnapped four seminary students.

Announcing the release of the students, Registrar of the school, Reverend Father Joel Usman, said three were released while one was still with the kidnappers.

Reverend Father Joel in a statement, urged Nigerians to keep praying for the release of the remaining seminarian.

He said, "With joy we announce the safe release of three of our Seminarians by their captors.

"One is still missing. We thank you our brothers and sisters for your prayers in our travails.

"Kindly continue to pray for the remaining one and all those still in the hands of kidnappers."

Their release was confirmed by the Kaduna State Police Command.

Garba Shehu, Presidential spokesperson, has called Anthony Okolie's lawyer, Mr Tope Akinyode, stating that Hanan Buahri was prepared to accept court processes earlier refused at the Aso Villa by Presidency officials. 

The phone call to Okolie's lawyer came amidst media backlash on the Presidency and President Buhari's family for showing disdain for legal processes. 

Garba Sheu said, "She now has a lawyer and is ready to collect the court process and sign undertaking to collect it.

Shortly afterwards, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Mallami (SAN), called Okolie's lawyer and human rights activist, Mr Tope Akinyode.

Making the same statement as Garba, Malami said, "I'll make arrangement for a lawyer to receive the processes from you. I'll send the lawyer's number to you and he'll make an undertaking." 

M. E Sheriff, lawyer to Hanan, thereafter called Okolie's lawyer as well.

Sheriff said that he will make undertaking that he'll receive the processes on behalf of Hanan and that she will also make an undertaking to the lawyer to accept the documents on her behalf. 

The drastic u-turn by the Presidency to provide legal representation for Hanan forms an historic precedent of rare court cases against Nigeria's President family.

Scores of Gokada and Max bike riders on Friday stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly to protest the recent restrictions placed on bikes and tricycles in the city.

Lamenting that the ban will only worsen the rate of joblessness in the state and take away their means of livelihood, the riders submitted a petition and pleaded with the state lawmakers to come to their aid.

Responding to the plea of the motorcycle riders, Bisi Yusuf, a member of the house representing Alimosho Constituency, who spoke on behalf of the speaker, urged the demonstrators to obey the law pending when the legislature will look into their petition.

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party on Friday in Abuja stormed the embassies of the United States and United Kingdom respectively to protest the Supreme Court judgment, which aw to the removal of Emeka Ihedioha as governor of Imo State.

The team led by the National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, alongside members of the National Working Committee.

Among the protesters are former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, former Imo State governor, Achike Udenwa, and Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe among others. 

The protesters are asking the international community to prevail on the Supreme Court to reverse the judgment.

Secondus asked the US and UK to prevail on the Nigerian Government to obey rule of law and not to truncate the nation's democracy.

The party also said that it was in support of calls by Abaribe and other Nigerians for the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari over the rising spate of insecurity. 

Secondus said, “On behalf of the PDP and the masses, we call on the international community to come to the assistance of our dear country. 

“The content of our letter is for international community to advise our government to obey the rule of law particularly as it relates to National Assembly and judiciary.”  

Secondus noted that President Buhari was overwhelmed with the security challenges in the country.  

The apex court had on January 14, 2020 declared Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress as the duly elected governor of the state, thereby bringing Ihedioha’s reign to an abrupt end.
