The Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) has waded through barricades mounted by security agents, and marched through Abuja in protest.
The protesters, who came from different states, arrived Abuja through Kubwa expressway, wielding portraits of their spiritual leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, as well as flags with Arabic inscriptions.
Efforts by a combined detachment of armed policemen and soldiers to prevent the group from proceeding with the protest proved futile, as they waded through the security barricades.
The protesters, who converged on Abuja from different states across the nation, defied a heavy downpour as they chanted: 'Free Zakzaky'; 'Free Our Leader'.
The group later ended the protest at Citec bus stop, near Gwarinpa, a few meters away from Abuja. They, however, vowed to enter the city centre on Monday.
Those who came in through Mararaba-Nyanya axis were stopped at Abacha Barracks by stern-looking anti-riot policemen drafted to the area. It was gathered that several gunshots were fired into the air to disperse the crowd.
On Saturday, the group had addressed a press conference during which it stated that more than one million followers of Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky would converge on Abuja on Sunday to embark on the 'Arbaeen Symbolic Trek'.
Five members of the group were allegedly shot to death by the Nigerian Army, during a violent clash at Zuba in Gwagwalada Area Council of Abuja on Saturday. See Also Breaking News BREAKING: Five Shi'ites Killed In Clash With Army Ahead Of 'Arbaeen Symbolic Trek' 0 Comments 1 Day Ago
The situation led to pandemonium, as many vehicles were vandalised and residents were seen scampering for safety.

The pandemonium caused by Saturday's clash between members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria and the Nigerian Army was capture on video after all.
A video footage of events obtained by SaharaReporters shows the Shi'ites pelting the soldiers, who responded by firing live bullets at them.
Vehicles tried to find safe spots, and the entire area erupted in chaos, people scampering into the nearest gutters and other available spaces.
Eyewitnesses had said the Shi'ia members were on a march from Suleja to Abuja as part of activities for the three-day 'Arbaeen Symbolic Trek', earlier scheduled to begin on Sunday in Abuja.
However, all hell broke loose when the sect insisted on taking a particular route, a move the Army insisted it would not approve. See Also Breaking News BREAKING: Five Shi'ites Killed In Clash With Army Ahead Of 'Arbaeen Symbolic Trek' 0 Comments 1 Day Ago
As of Sunday, the number of casualties was still being disputed, as the Army insisted three Shi'ites died during the incident while IMN displayed six lifels bodies from the incident.

A repeat of the drama that occurred in the build-up to the 2015 elections is currently making waves, regarding the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari to submit his academic credentials to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as required of candidates.
SaharaReporters recalls that this is the second time the President has failed to submit the minimum certificate required of anyone to contest any elective position.
In 2015, when Buhari entered the race for Nigeria’s number one seat, he failed to present a certificate proving he participated in the O'Level examination.
Fast-forward to 2018, as part of requirements for candidates for elective positions, Buhari has again claimed that his certificate and other academic credentials are with the military.
Emerging reports have it that Buhari only submitted an affidavit, wherein he claimed that his credentials are with the Secretary of the Military Board.
Maybe the affidavit would have been enough to prove that the President has a West African Examinations Council (WAEC) certificate; however, a January 20, 2015 Channels TV report quotes the Nigerian Army as denying being in possession of General (President) Muhammadu Buhari’s West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination statement of result.
Addressing a press conference, the then Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Olajide Laleye had said "the Army has been inundated with request for the General’s credentials", adding that it was only in possession of a letter from the Principal of the Provincial Secondary School, Katsina, recommending Buhari as fit for military commissioning in 1960.

"The Army has in its possession Nigerian Army Form 199A, where the General indicated after commissioning that he obtained credits in four subjects and a pass in another. However, it is not in possession of a certificate to prove same," Laleye said.
In the document passed around to journalists for sighting, the letter read in part: “I recommend him suitable for military commissioning. I consider that he will pass the WASC examination in English, Math and three other subjects.”
The big question, which has now surfaced and needs answering, is: "Where is the original copy of President Buhari’s academic credentials?"

The personal income declared by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has continued to generate mixed reactions among Nigerians ahead of the 2019 general election.
The latest is from a pro-democracy group, Rebirth Nigeria Leadership and Good Governance Initiative, which has called for a thorough probe into the financial activities of the companies belonging to Atiku.
The group said the income taxes declared by the PDP presidential candidate must have been filled with “irregularities”.
According to the credentials released by INEC last Friday, Atiku declared the sum of N60.2 million as his personal income in three years. The PDP presidential candidate also indicated in his tax returns attached to his nomination form that he paid N10.8 million tax between 2015 and 2017.
However, the group said it was aware that the Adamawa-born politician worth more than what he had declared to INEC as his income tax.
Speaking to journalists, Olugbenro Ogunoye, National President of the Rebirth Nigeria Leadership and Good Governance Initiative, accused the PDP presidential candidate of not telling the truth about his income and taxes.
According to him, the amount declared by Atiku could not cover the multiple trips he makes in a year, noting that a return first class ticket to Dubai alone varies within N3.5 million.
“Aside that, the amount of money the PDP presidential candidate doles out to urchins and political thugs, even before the start of electioneering, on a monthly basis is way more than N20 million.
“We do not want to go into the details of the dollar rain he made to fall at the convention that produced him as PDP’s candidate.
“Is he trying to tell us that he gave out the equivalent of his one year income to three delegates? Then, he must have been working for ten thousand years to pull that feat.
“Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s worth had been estimated at about $1.4 billion, while his loyalists had touted his business acumen citing investments in media, shipping, education, manufacturing and other areas.
“If these businesses, in addition to his pension as a former vice president, cannot lift his annual earnings above N20 million, then something is cardinally wrong with his business sense.
“Either the books are being cooked up to project losses and avoid paying the correct taxes or he is in reality a bad and lousy businessman that should not be allowed anywhere near the economy.
“The myth of Atiku Abubakar being a business maverick has thus been forever shattered, because even those running enterprises that are a tenth of his business empire earn more than N20 million annually as personal income and their businesses are not suffering.
“His (Atiku) companies must then submit to independent audit to verify the extent to which the books have been tampered with such that their owner is unable to earn up to N2 million monthly,” he said.
Ogunoye, however, implored Atiku to also declare his assets with a “realistic declaration of his income” for the electorate participating in the 2019 general election to take him serious and accountable.

Tony Anenih, former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, has died, aged 85.
A source in Abuja told SaharaReporters that Anenih died in the federal capital on Sunday.
Although his family has yet to officially confirm his demise, Emmanuel Uduaghan, former Governor of Delta State, has alteady described the occurrence as painful.
“I have just received the sad news of the death of one of Nigeria’s greatest nationalists, Chief Tony Anenih. His passing is a painful reminder that the pool of our committed nationalist leaders is depleting,” said Uduaghan in a statement released by Monoyo Edon, his media assistant.
“Chief Anenih was like a father-figure to me privately and on my political sojourn. He gave me the privilege of his listening ears in troubled and in good times.
“I shall forever cherish the very good memories we shared together, he was my run-to adviser who threw his doors open to me, even at short notice. I generously tapped from his wealth of experience and I am the better for it today.
“His death may be painful, but I thank God for the selfless life he lived and the legacies, worth emulating by all patriots, that he left behind. I pray that the Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and the Anenih's family the fortitude to bear irreparable loss.”
Similarly, the Edo State Government has commiserated with the Anenih family, Governor Godwin Obaseki saying the entire state was saddened by the loss, and describing the late politician as “a leader who made immense contributions to the development of the state and the country”.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has endorsed Udom Emmanuel, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, for a second term in office.
According to Obasanjo, Udom is a "good product" and there is "no need to replace a good product".
This was contained in his address, when he joined the governor at a Sunday Service at Qua Iboe Church, in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
He said: "I'm here to congratulate him. We should be celebrating good leadership. Unfortunately, I don't have time but I will come back and when I come back, I'll come for a big celebration.
"You have to be a man of God to say 'may God provide for me a successor that will do to me what I have done to my predecessor'.
"Children of God, we have a good product in our hands. And if I have a good product in my hands, I'll not change it; I'll keep it. This is a good product; let's have him for continuity. I can assure you that this governor has no fear. He will stand still and he will take us to the promised land."
He also praised Udom on four godly attributes: truth, forgiveness, love amd continuity.
Earlier in his address, Udom praised Obasanjo for his role as a politician and a father.
He said: "When you see Obj move, something is about to happen. As you have seen him move today, something good is about to happen in Akwa Ibom. He came on a father-son solidarity visit. This is the first time any former or sitting president is worshipping here."

Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has said unless people with good intentions, exposure, and experience get involved in Nigeria's politics, the country will not make the needed rapid progress.
Sowore stated this in an interview with renowned journalist and content creator, Rukiat Faith Abudu Akinridibo of 'Updates With Ruki'.
Responding to her question on his inspiration to join politics in spite of his success in the media, Sowore said: “I’ve always had this theory about democracy, especially in the Nigerian setting. When Nigeria’s democracy started or re-started in 1999, and helped to oversee a period when democracy was consolidated first by removing a strongman who wanted to continue in office in 2007, it helped to broaden the democratic space to the extent that the minority was able to emerge as president.
"We also got to a point where we were able to midwife a party-to-party transition and the next level is a generational change and I want to see that that is possible in my lifetime."
He added that missing at all the stages were people who had “character, capacity, exposure, integrity handling Nigeria at those crucial stages”.
“Before now, we’ve left it with incompetent people; people who are sentimentally attached to religion and tribe; people who have very shady backgrounds; people with political and military baggage. This is the time for real people to handle Nigeria’s march into the future," he said.
Referring to himself as the top man for the number one office in Nigeria with his #TakeItBack movement and AAC Party, Sowore said: “I have always been in the middle of political happenings in Nigeria and over the years, I have studied Nigeria. I have been around it for 30 years and I have been a participant in all that has shaped politics in those years, starting from when I was a student activist at the University of Lagos.
"We have our unique spaces where we operate; we have unique populations that we talk to; we have unique people who are following us. In fact, more and more have joined us. We are seeing a lot of progress, engagement and participation especially from young people."
