The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Abayomi Kamaldeen Alaka (aka Awise), the leader of the alleged deadly syndicate of ‘juju’ scammers that operates from a shrine at Ashipa Town, near Abeokuta, Ogun State.

In a statement issued by the EFCC’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, Awise’s arrest followed a petition by a victim, Bright Juliet who lost N250 million to the syndicate after she was tricked to provide money for sacrifices and invocations to heal her of an ailment.

She was introduced to Alaka by Akinola Bukola Augustina (aka Iya Osun) whom she met on Facebook in the course of her search for solutions to her health challenge. What drew her to Augustina was the latter’s post under the name, Osunbukola Olamitutu Spiritual Healing Centre.

Once she contacted Augustina, the latter promised to heal her only if she paid N16 million. The victim paid the money through an Access Bank account belonging to Mohammed Sani, who later turned out to be a Bureau De Change operator.

After paying the money without receiving healing, Augustina passed the victim on to other members of the syndicate, notably Awise.

Juliet revealed that she met Awise at his shrines in Ashipa Town and was hypnotised and subsequently transferred various sum through bank accounts and in cash to the suspect and his syndicate members until she lost N250 million to them.

Despite all the monies collected from her, her health conditions never improved.

She consequently petitioned the EFCC.

A team from the Foreign Exchange Malpractices Section (FEMS) at EFCC headquarters, on May 21, 2021, arrested both Sani Mohammed and Akinola Bukola Augustina in Egbeda and Abule Egba respectively, in a sting operation in Lagos.

Augustina, who is currently on administrative bail, later led operatives to the Ashipa Town Shrine of Awise, but the latter escaped arrest having got wind of the presence of the Commission’s operatives. He was, however, later apprehended.

Following his arrest, the Commission has traced and marked several assets linked to Awise, believed to be got from proceeds of his criminal activities.

According to the EFCC, the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.

No fewer than 300 social media users have unfollowed popular Gospel musician, Tope Alabi, over comments condemning a song by an up-and-coming gospel artiste, Yinka Alaseyori.

The song which described God as ‘Oniduro’, meaning a guarantor or surety was condemned by Alabi while performing on stage in a public event.

In a video that has now gone viral, Alabi was seen making a veiled reference to Alaseyori's song, saying it will be wrong for anybody to refer to their God as a guarantor.

Tope Alabi, who spoke in Yoruba, said there was a day she wanted to sing the song, but the Holy Spirit told her to shut up. According to her, God is more than a guarantor or surety and it will not be good to describe him so.

She further warned Gospel singers to digest songs very well before releasing them to the public.

She said, “Look at the enormous things God has done and somebody now came out to say Oniduromi e seun. God is not my own guarantor. God is more than a guarantor. I also loved that song, but the day I wanted to sing it, the Holy Spirit said ‘shut up your mouth.’ This is not like saying a song is not good.

“When you receive a song in the spirit, there are some deliberations you must have with the Holy Spirit before releasing it to the public, otherwise, if you release it the way it comes, individuals will just be singing rubbish."

Despite her prominence, Alabi's comment was met with outbursts from some of her fans.

While many pointed out that the singer also uses 'worldly' lyrics in her songs, some simply just unfollowed her.

From checks, SaharaReporters observed that Tope Alabi's follower base on Instagram reduced by 300 in the past week.

Also, comments regarding 'Oniduro' have consistently trolled almost every of Tope Alabi's Instagram posts even without being related. She seemed to have lost respect on social media.

Below are some of the comments:

Odamilolaoseun wrote, “Madam Tope Alabi, I think it's time you retrace your step and restitute of all the unwarranted critiquing, stop pulling others down. The part where you said 'your pride' (not the holy spirit) said 'gbenu soun' (shut up) is a big fat lie! Where and when others fail and run a guarantor (Oniduro) stands. Who stands before the throne pleading for us? Who advocates for us? E ronujinle ma (think deeply, ma).”

Another Instagram user, Toyinooge wrote, “Oloruko pupo ni Olorun (God goes by many names)... You call him what HE is to you... He is my Guarantor, Surety, He is everything good. Saying that publicly wasn't nice at all.”

Sleekvalerie stated, ”Aunty Tope 'onilara' (Envious Aunty Tope). 'Emi mimo' (Holy spirit) said you should 'gbenu sound abi' shut up, right). Secretary to the Holy Spirit. You have no right to discredit another person's song. Awon born against.”

Walegbajumo said, “When Tope Alabi sang: 'Oti Jesu npami o jare' meaning 'Jesus' alcoholic drink is intoxicating her', nobody faulted her or saw any negative vision concerning that. What moral justification does she has to fault 'Oniduro mi Eseun ooo?' Meaning 'Guarantor'.”

Meanwhile, the young lady whose song was condemned was seen in a recent Instagram video singing the 'condemned' song alongside one of Tope Alabi's song. This has endeared many tweeps to her and they sought to follow her.

A coalition of 70 civil society organisations has condemned the decision of the federal government to suspend Twitter's operations in Nigeria.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported how the government banned the microblogging site for allegedly threatening the country's corporate existence.

But in a joint statement through Isa Sanusi, media manager for Amnesty International Nigeria, the groups demanded the immediate reversal of the ban, describing such as undemocratic.

According to the groups, the development is another indication of the worsening violation of human rights by the extant administration in the country.

They also condemned the “directive” issued by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for all broadcast stations to deactivate their Twitter accounts.

The statement read: "We, the undersigned civil society organisations are concerned about the repression and escalating crackdown on human rights by the Nigerian government, particularly the rights to freedom of expression, access to information and media freedom.

"We strongly condemn the arbitrary and unlawful suspension of Twitter in Nigeria, by the authorities, and the resulting restrictions on the human rights of people, as well as the threat to prosecute anyone using Twitter in Nigeria.

"We are concerned about an alarming backsliding on human rights across Nigeria as the Federal Government and state authorities continue to use the criminal justice system and repression to silence peaceful dissent, while failing to ensure accountability for violations of rights. People continue to suffer repressive measures including unlawful surveillance and harassment, arbitrary arrests, detention and unfair trials.

"The Nigerian authorities have continued to propose laws to regulate the social media, and restrict the rights to freedom of expression, access to information, and media freedom, including through legislative bills popularly known as the ‘Hate Speech Bill’ and ‘The Social Media Bill’ which both provide severe punitive sanctions such as the death penalty in some cases, for social media users convicted of 'crimes' provided under them.

"The suspension of Twitter in Nigeria is inconsistent and incompatible with the Nigerian Constitution of 1999 (as amended) and the country’s international human rights obligations including under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

"The Nigerian authorities have continued to fail in their obligation to respect, protect, promote, and fulfil the human rights of its own people.

"We therefore call on the Nigerian authorities to: Immediately rescind the unlawful suspension of Twitter in Nigeria and withdraw the threat to prosecute anyone using Twitter in the country.

"Immediately withdraw the directive to broadcast stations to deactivate their Twitter accounts. End widespread impunity for human rights violations, in particular the rights to freedom of expression including online, access to information and media freedom.

"We also urge the international community, including the UN and the African Union to publicly condemn the suspension of Twitter in Nigeria, and to put pressure on the Nigerian authorities to reverse the decision."

An attorney for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor has called for the intervention of the British Government over the assassination attempt on his life and invasion of his ancestral home at Oraifite in the Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State by Nigerian security agents.

In a letter dated June 10, 2021, addressed to the High Commissioner, British High Commission, and obtained by SaharaReporters, the lawyer asked the British Government to prevail on the Nigerian Government to set up an independent investigative panel to probe the killing of his personal assistant, Samuel Okoro and an assassination attempt on his life on June 6, 2021.

Ifeanyi Ejiofor

He questioned how he was singled out for assassination despite the peace initiatives and solutions he had offered for lasting peace to reign in the Southeastern region of the country.

Ejiofor narrated how the team of agents killed his personal assistant, Samuel Okoro, put his body in the boot of his (Ejiofor's) Toyota Camry car, and went away with the car and Okoro's body.

He said the security operatives came with about 15 vans and buses.

The letter read in part, "It is even more worrisome since till date, there has been no statement from any of the said security agencies, taking responsibility for the murderous invasion and/or operation, and/or given any explanations for same.
"It is therefore clear from the foregoing, that our client’s life is no longer safe, as there is an obvious state-sponsored conspiracy to eliminate our client at all cost and by any means.

"We call on the British Government to prevail on the Federal Government of Nigeria to set up an independent investigative panel to investigate the recent incident that occurred at our client’s ancestral home in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, on the 6th day of June 2021, and the first invasion that occurred on the 2nd day of December 2019.
"We also call on the British Government, to prevail on the Federal Government of Nigeria and her security agents to desist from further attempts on our client’s life.
"We further call on the British Government to intervene in the circumstance and afford our client all necessary protection available.
"We finally crave the indulgence of the British Government for a proactive oversight and intervention in the light of this obvious travesty of justice and to prevail on the Nigerian Government to desist from a further attempt on our client’s life."

He queried the rationale and motive of those behind the attack, saying Sheikh Ahmad Gumi who was advocating for bandits was being protected by security agents of the Nigerian state.

Some youths in Ondo State have called on the government to consider immortalising the founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, popularly known as Prophet T. B. Joshua, by naming an institution after the cleric.

They also urged the family of the late cleric to bring his remains to his hometown, Arigidi Akoko for burial.

The renowned Ondo-born cleric died on June 8, 2021, a few days to his 58th birthday in Lagos.

The youths, who are from the four local government areas of Akoko made the call at the weekend during a 'special walk' to honour the departed cleric in his hometown of Arigidi Akoko.

Speaking at the procession, the President of the Akoko Youth Forum, Mr. Ifeoluwa Ajibuwa described the late Joshua as a charismatic pastor, televangelist, and philanthropist who devoted his lifetime to the teaching of Christ.

He said the prophet was among the most philanthropic among the sons and daughters of Akoko who ever lived.

While noting that Prophet T. B. Joshua was a blessing to Akokoland, Ondo State, Nigeria and the world at large, Ajibuwa pleaded with the government to bury his remains in his hometown of Arigidi Akoko.

He said, "The man of God was a shining light that has shone on every country of the world thus making Akoko land a place in the hearts of the people around the world.

"Prophet T. B. Joshua was a philanthropist, a role model and mentor to this generation and his message of love and help for the needy made him irresistible among the preachers and televangelists in the world.

"We want him immortalised by the government because it is also the best way to remember him for his impact to the society and the people. He will surely be greatly missed by everyone and all over the world.

"Even, his contributions to the security, welfare and education sector of the state will always makes the vacuum created by his demise unfilled.

"We, the entire youths of Akoko want to make it a clear request to the family of the deceased and those concerned that his remains should be brought home to Arigidi Akoko for Burial."

Other speakers at the event also testified to the philanthropic nature of the cleric, saying his good works would speak after him.

They noted that his contributions to the security, welfare and education sector of the state was invaluable which they said would make it difficult for anyone to fill the vacuum created by his demise.

The monarch of Joshua's hometown, the Zaki of Arigidi-Akoko, Oba Yisa Olanipekun had also demanded that the remains of the deceased be buried at place.

Popular gospel singer, Tope Alabi, has come under heavy criticism for condemning a song by an upcoming gospel artiste, Yinka Alaseyori.

Alaseyori, in one of her songs, described God as her (spiritual) guarantor or advocate.

The song, ‘Oniduro mi e seun’, meaning ‘thank You my Guarantor’, had since then gained prominence in churches in the South-West.

But, in a video that has now gone viral, Tope Alabi was seen making a veiled reference to Alaseyori during an event, saying it will be wrong for anybody to tag God as his or her guarantor.

“When you receive a song in the spirit, there are some deliberations you must have with the Holy Spirit before releasing it to the public, otherwise, if you release it the way it comes, individuals will just be singing rubbish. He has given us the brain to digest it very well, then bring it back.”

But, Alabi's comment had since attracted the outrage of many Nigerians on social media, who opined that she was only envious of Yinka.

Some also stated that Alabi had also been guilty of using certain words in the lyrics of her songs, that were considered 'worldly'.

The #Oniduromi challenge was started on Twitter so the song will gain more popularity as a way to spite Alabi's comments.

Below are some reactions on Twitter.

Soldiers of 14 Brigade, Army Headquarters, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks, who invaded Ohafia in the Ohafia Local Government of Abia State in search of gunmen suspected to be members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), have burnt down several houses in the area.

A source who spoke with SaharaReporters on Sunday said a lot of residents and indigenes of Elu, Amangwu, Ebem and Ohafia fled their communities to neighbouring villages due to the constant invasion.

Seven soldiers have now lost their lives in the attack, the source said.

According to him, some unknown gunmen were passing through the Amangwu village when soldiers from the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks launched an attack.

He stated that in the counter-attack, two soldiers got injured while the unknown gunmen fled.

Infuriated, a mass of soldiers from the barracks invaded the town, shooting at people, and burning down houses.

Provoked, residents and indigenes who could no longer bear the constant attacks, shot back and this has led to the death of seven soldiers.

The source said, “Some unknown gunmen, we don't know who they are or where they are coming from, they were passing through Amangwu and they were confronted by soldiers from the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks. Two of the soldiers later got injured and were rushed to the hospital.

“But the soldiers went to regroup and came back en masse. They started harassing people in the community, most especially young men. They arrested a lot of young men, they took them to the barracks.

“They also come from time to time to shoot at people, I mean direct shooting so the people had to retaliate. At first, three soldiers died, then four of them died yesterday, making seven. The other two that were attacked by the gunmen were not even killed, they got injured.

“We don't know why the soldiers keep invading Amangwu, the gunmen are not from here, they just passed through this place. Soldiers should leave Amangwu and its people alone.”

He also stated that a lot of houses in the Amangwu Ohafia community had been burnt.

The soldiers had claimed that members of the ESN were using the houses as their hideout.

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) has urged its member-schools nationwide to engage armed security as schools have now become targets of kidnappers and with the government failing to guarantee security.

NAPPS in a release enjoined all schools to “invest in community armed security personnel” as well as on perimeter fencing to safeguard the pupils under them.

The NAPPS National President, Chief Yomi Otubela, in a June 12 statement to the schools, obtained by SaharaReporters, noted that the Democracy Day celebration is coming at a time when Nigerian schools are preys in the hands of criminals.

Otubela said, “Unfortunately, this year's democracy day celebration is coming at a time when the spate of insecurity in the country is at its alarming rate. More worrisome is the fact that schools are not spared as kidnappings, killings have virtually become the order of the day.

“Given this sad development, I would like to encourage members to invest in the following as their contribution to the war against insecurity; one, schools should invest in perimeter fencing; two, collaborate with the community to invest in community armed security personnel.

“Schools with hostel facilities should invest in armed security. They should improve welfare package for security personnel within the school network. They should also run another background checks on security personnel and embark on retraining and refresher courses.

“They should increase schools budgetary allocation to security.”

The NAPPS noted that the association, on its part, would ensure that it provides “welfare packages to members” to cushion the effects of the hard times.

“There will be continuous advocacy on unfriendly government policies; free and affordable capacity building programmes for Members' school personnel; opportunity to members for social networking through programmes, social media platforms.

“We would like to call on both Federal Government and state governments to provide sufficient facilities for growth and peace within the country. It is only a peaceful environment that can attract both foreign and internal investments that will drive the economy for growth and development,” he noted.

The unusual sense of responsibility shown by Tony Nnadi, Secretary-General of the Lower Niger Congress, speaking on behalf of NINAS, the Alliance of indigenous peoples of the South and Middle Belt of Nigeria, provides the ORDERLY solution that can prevent the real possibility of requiring a costly Blue Helmets (United Nations Peacekeeping Force) intervention to quell the increasing armed conflict and insecurity in Nigeria.

In a video communiqué* on June 9, 2021 Nnadi made the NINAS leadership position on the Military siege of Eastern Nigeria plain and clear, with a “Cease and Desist” caution to the two sides involved in the ongoing carnage, ie, the ESN/Unknown gunmen and the Federal Government/Armed Forces. ESN, for those unfamiliar with who they are, stands for Eastern Security Network. ESN is a motley group of marginalized and disaffected individuals, mostly young men, who are unemployed and not well educated. In the West, ESN would be called a gang/street gang. ESN was set up by a man called Nnamdi Kanu who acquired British citizenship and who is based in the UK, from where he remotely controls his ESN which he calls a “security outfit”. Some Readers may be used to associating Kanu with his Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) followers. IPOB and ESN are in effect the same gang, but given different names by their leader.

Also mentioned in the NINAS video communiqué is World Igbo Congress (WIC) because they are main promoters of ESN, so share some responsibility for the deadly affray in Igbo land. WIC is a sociocultural Igbo organisation with headquarters in Houston, USA. Their website states that they are “dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of Igbo people in the Diaspora and in their homeland in Nigeria.” NINAS expressed concern over the backing and support that WIC gives to Kanu and his ESN. Many others have shown similar concerns over the fact that ESN is, not only under the sole control of Kanu, but their members are unknown (thus also no name checks etc done), and unlike vigilantes, they are not regulated by the community. WIC responds by saying that given the dreadful menace of Fulani herdsmen trespassing onto farms, raping Igbo women and children, and killing Igbo farmers, they would support any “security outfit”.

The other key players in the ongoing military siege in the South East are Federal Government and the Military that President Buhari as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, controls. Buhari is a Fulani, a non-indigenous, settler and immigrant ethnic group that had been welcomed to the land presently known as “Nigeria”. Since coming to power he has filled the top positions of key ministries and agencies with Fulani which has helped bring about a loss of faith and interest by the indigenous peoples of the South and Middle Belt in “Project Nigeria”. Giving momentum to the unravelling of Nigeria that we are witnessing, is that the worn out “Fulani herdsman – farmer clashes” narrative has been completely debunked. The real situation is that Fulani herdsmen militias and Islamic terrorists causing “insecurity”, is actually the activation of genocide against indigenous peoples for land grab that started in the Middle Belt but that has now spread southwards to all regions.

It is under this very tense situation that Kanu using his UK-based Radio Biafra, is heard commanding his ESN to attack police stations and public buildings in Igbo land (Eastern Nigeria). The resulting killing of police officers and soldiers allegedly by ESN/IPOB gave Buhari the excuse he believes he needed to send troops to the East where there is currently a siege-like situation. There are now regular reports of ESN/IPOB and ordinary Igbos being killed or detained by security services.

SOME SIMILARITIES BETWEEN KANU AND BUHARI:

  1. Both use violence against those who oppose them.

. There are various audio/radio messages where Kanu commands his IPOB/ESN to destroy property belonging to his perceived enemies, or to kill them.

. Buhari uses state power to prevent, or crush non-violent protests by citizens complaining about the awful state of the country.

  2. Both are lacking in trustworthiness.

. Kanu came on the scene promising his followers self-determination (ie “Biafra restoration”). So far, there is no evidence to show that he is seeking self-determination for his followers. (Should Kanu have kept some evidence somewhere unknown, he ought to bring it out for proper public scrutiny.)

. Buhari and his Vice Osinbajo were elected in 2015 on the promise of giving Nigerians the Restructuring they wanted. However, once in power, they failed to honour this promise in their party’s Manifesto to “…implement efficient public financial management strategies and ensure true Federalism”. There is also the lack of trust in government surrounding the End SARS protests of October 2020.

  3. Both lack legitimacy in the positions they hold.
. Although Kanu claims to be the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra worldwide, in December 2019, the ECOWAS Court of Justice ruled that he has no mandate to represent the people of Biafra. Until it is successfully appealed and set aside, this Ruling remains in force.

. Although Buhari is seen as the President of Nigeria, the 1999 Constitution that he relies on, and that creates his position, is imposed and is a known forgery, thus illegitimate. The position of Nigerian President has the same status as the 1999 Constitution. (So do all governance structures created by that illegitimate 1999 Constitution.)

  4. Both their families stay abroad, quite safe from the harm they bring upon Nigerians.

. Although born in Nigeria, Kanu has successfully obtained British citizenship. He now resides in the UK with his family.

. Buhari has access to all the perks of a Nigerian President. Neither of his two baby/toddler grandchildren by his daughter Zahra were born in Nigeria. One was born in Spain, the other in Dubai. His wife spends much of the year abroad, reportedly in Dubai.

Having now provided the Reader with some insights into the two main protagonists of the heavy-handed Military operation in the East, the most sensible solution is the NINAS leadership solution: a “Cease and Desist” caution to all sides, ie, to both Kanu and Buhari. It is a silence the guns in Africa solution. The initial crimes of police officers and soldiers being killed warrant a Criminal Justice approach, not a Military approach! NINAS had already been steadily addressing the faulty constitutional arrangement of Nigeria which is the source of all that ails the country, culminating in the Constitutional Force Majeure declared in Lagos on 16th December 2020. This is an ORDERLY PROCESS that also considers foreign stakeholders, using democratic procedures and dialogue, and it follows international law. Nigerians need peace. Their African neighbours will be affected by what happens in Nigeria, so they need to see Nigeria being responsible and considerate. NINAS are the last Peacemakers in this arena, and their “Cease and Desist” caution to all sides should be swiftly complied with. Quickly! Before the situation goes completely out of hand, causing a massive refugee crisis, and necessitating serious international interventions and sanctions.

Major markets and shops in many parts of Abeokuta, Ogun State, were shut as Yoruba nation agitators and youths protested in the city.

The youths and agitators held June 12 protests in Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode, Sango, and other parts of the state.

From a video obtained by SaharaReporters, a handful of protesters armed with #BuhariMustGo and #YorubaNation placards flooded the streets of Abeokuta.

The protesters started from the Moshood Abiola Stadium at Abeokuta before moving on to other city areas.

In another report by Punch, businesses were grounded in major markets such as Itoku Adire/Kampala market, Kuto, Sapon and Lafenwa.

It was also gathered that major markets in Ijebu-Ode, Ilaro, Sango, and other places were affected over the fear of a clash between pro and anti-government protesters.

As early as 7:30 am, joint security teams embarked on a show of force around the state capital and some parts of the state to curtail the activities of the protesters.

In another video obtained by SaharaReporters, Yoruba Nation Now protests were held in Washington, United States of America, with the agitators calling for a referendum.

Some of the agitators carried placards written, '1999 constitution is a fraud', '1914 amalgamation is a fraud' among others.

President Muhammadu Buhari says he will go back to his cows and continue farming after leaving office in 2023.

Buhari disclosed that he still kept a farm and "have some cattle" that will keep him busy after his presidency.

"I have never abandoned my farm, and I still have many cattle," he told ARISE TV in an interview. "When I leave, I will go to my farm daily and try to keep myself busy."

He added, “Between now and then, I will try to keep on convincing Nigerians that I mean very well. I will make sure that they see identifiable problems. We have situated the economy in fighting them, and we will continue to anchor it."

"Visibly, we made progress in the North-East. We made progress in the South-South. I am overwhelmed almost by North-West, and they are going to get it very soon," he stated.

When asked by the TV station what his legacy would be, the president said Nigerians should discuss it because he would not like to state his legacy himself.

"I will allow Nigerians to discuss it," he said, “I wouldn't like to say it myself. I hope Nigerians will be fair to me. That's all I need."

Igbo groups of the Association of South East Town Unions (ASETU) and Concerned Igbo Stakeholders in Enugu have called on the five governors from the South-East to work with their State Assemblies in resolving the crises in Igboland.

The groups lamented the deteriorating security situation in the South East, which has claimed the lives of security agents, innocent citizens and destruction of public infrastructural facilities.

While it condemned the recent genocidal comment of President Muhammadu Buhari against Igbo youths, the groups urged the Nigerian government to convene a national dialogue to address the complexity of the nation's challenges.

These were contained in a communique issued by the groups after their meeting and made available to SaharaReporters by Barrister Austin Okeke on Friday.

"The Association of South East Town Unions (ASETU), therefore having widely consulted with and collated the views of the leaderships and the Town Unions, and working in concert with many other respected Igbo groups, which include Nzuko Umunna, Igbo World Assembly, World Igbo Congress, Alaigbo Development Foundation, Ekwe Nche, Igbo Board of Deputies and Council of Igbo States in America etc., deemed it pertinent to convene a one-day emergency security meeting. We now wish to make the following resolutions public:

"Nigeria has lately been mired in serious security challenges. Terrorists, armed bandits and killer herders have continued with their destructive activities in various parts of the country, even with an overwhelming audacity.

"In Igboland, the security situation has deteriorated, especially in the last few months. The carnage against the poor, defenceless and vulnerable rural dwellers by invading armed Fulani militiamen who masquerade as herders have gone on unabated and unchecked.

We condemn the continued attacks by killer herders in our land. The inability of the security operatives to track and bring these merchants of death to justice over the years has remained inexplicable and unacceptable to us.

"We equally urge the state governors to immediately work with the state assemblies and pass regional security laws for the south-east given the regional nature of our challenges.

"We urge the state governors and Assemblies to ensure that in the shortest possible time we have a robust and fully operational regional security system which builds on the neighbourhood watches and vigilantes and is fully manned by locals from the topmost personnel to the lowest officials to be accepted by Ndigbo. In addition, it must not be or be seen to be politicized in any shape or form.

"Finally, we call on the Federal Government to immediately convene a national dialogue to resolve the many fundamental questions that have continued to breed crises in Nigeria and fan the embers of insecurity, thereby posing serious threats to the lives and livelihoods of people," part of the statement read.

In the communique issued by Association of South East Town Unions, World Igbo Congress, Igbo World Assembly, Alaigbo Development Foundation, Nzuko Umunna, Ekwe Nche, Council of Igbo States in America, Anioma Redemption Group, Igbo Board of Deputies, Nkata Ndi Inyom Igbo, and ASETU Women Forum, there was an appeal to the assailants disturbing the peace of the South-East to sheathe their swords.

The groups launched a portal for the Igbo people to collect data on several crises going on in the region. They also alerted the international community to keep abreast of the atrocities ravaging the region.

"We, therefore, call on all those who indulge in such retrogressive enterprise to have a rethink and immediately retrace their steps in the overall interest of Ndiigbo.

"We hereby launch the Igbo Human Rights Violations Portal (IHRVP), whose mandate includes the collation of details of all victims of the killings by Fulani herdsmen, extra-judicial murders and other human rights violations in Igboland for onward action in the International Criminal Court. This will be coordinated in conjunction with the State Bar Associations in Igboland and volunteer senior legal practitioners and activists.

"We equally wish to put the United Nations, the International Criminal Court, the African Union, ECOWAS, United States of America, the European Union, the United Kingdom and Israel on notice of the public encouragement given by the President to uniformed officers and the general public to engage in genocidal behaviour against Ndiigbo," the statement further read.

A Nigerian-American, Ismemen David Etute, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder for beating his Tinder date to death after discovering the woman named 'Angie' he's had oral sex with was a man.

The 18-year-old was charged with the death of Blacksburg restaurant manager Jerry Paul Smith after allegedly punching and stomping the 40-year-old multiple times on May 31.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Etute matched with Smith on Tinder but Smith's profile indicated he was a woman named 'Angie,' Etute's attorney James Turk said.

Later, the Nigerian-American, a linebacker at the basketball club Virginia tech, discovered the truth when they met again on May 31, 2021, at Smith's apartment.

Enraged, Etute landed blows on Smith and punched him on the face five times, court records say.

As Smith fell to the ground, Etute punched him five more times before stomping on him till he died.

Blacksburg police discovered Smith's body on June 1 in his apartment. The autopsy report has revealed blunt force trauma to the head as the cause of Smith's death.

It was gathered that all the bones in his face were broken and even his teeth were missing.

During a bond hearing last week, the Montgomery County General District Court was told Smith had multiple social media accounts where he posed as a woman named "Angie."

Etute was denied bail. According to reports, he had told police that Smith did not fight back.

"Nobody deserves to die, but I don't mind saying, don't pretend you are something that you are not," Etute's attorney, James Turk, told reporters outside of court on Wednesday. "Don't target or lure anyone under that perception. That's just wrong."

Etute also has a July 22 hearing in Radford, where he faces driving charges that stem from Memorial Day: he was driving a 2019 BMW SUV and was pulled over at 4 p.m. for reckless driving and failing to obey a stop sign according to court records.

The court has set September 23, 2021 as the date for Etute's preliminary hearing on the murder charge.
