The European parliament, legislative branch of the European Union, has accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration of overseeing the persecution of Christians in the Northern part of Nigeria where Sharia law is in practice.

The EU in a new report released on January 16, 2020 said over 6000 Christians had been murdered by "Fulani militants whereas in Sharia states, Christians face constant discrimination and are often considered second class citizens”.

The report further adds that, “These attacks have continued with total impunity with perpetrators rarely being held to account whereas Amnesty International report has demonstrated wilful negligence by the Nigerian security forces concerning deadly attacks against farming communities.”

The report says Buhari's poor handling of Nigeria's deteriorating situation in the North-East has worsened as non-governmental organisations ready to help are denied access by the Nigerian Government for political reasons.

The EU condemned what it described as "extermination of human beings or ethnic cleansing" while calling on the Nigerian Government to find immediate solutions to the conflict now affecting the stability of West Africa.

The Kaduna State Police Command has debunked a report claiming that 30 people were killed and 100 others kidnapped during an attack along Kaduna-Zaria Road.

In a statement by the spokesperson for police in the state, Abubakar Sabo, the command said that only six persons lost their lives while five others were injured from the incident, which took place on January 14.

Sabo disclosed that investigation was ongoing to ascertain the exact number of persons abducted.

The statement reads, “While regretting the unfortunate incident, the Command maintains this casualty figure as accurate until more facts prove to the contrary.

“Consequently, the command wishes to warn members of the public who share messages related to security from unverifiable sources to desist, as the command would not hesitate to deal decisively with any person or group of persons who engage in such malicious publication/circulation.

“All accounts of crime incidents should be verified before publication to avoid being involved in sharing mischief.”

Less than one week after it was revealed that the Ogun State Government had nominated a disgraced former lecturer of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Prof Sidi Osho, as Commissioner for Education and sent her name to the state’s House of Assembly for clearance, SaharaReporters has uncovered moves by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun to appoint yet another person suspected to have forged academic credentials as a special adviser in his government.

Listed number one on the log of nominees for special advisers in a document seen by SaharaReporters, Dr Joseph S. Odemuyiwa has been found to be a serial certificate forger and manipulator, who has fraudulently walked his way to the top of the academia despite being discovered and dismissed by two higher institutions in the past.

Findings by SaharaReporters revealed that Odemuyiwa left OOU to Kwara State University with forged letter of promotion to become associate professor but was soon discovered and sent packing.

He found his way into Tai Solarin University of Education in Ogun State where one Prof Awonusi detected his fake degrees and university qualifications and had him booted out.

In Odemuyiwa’s resume seen by SaharaReporters, he claimed to have attended several reputable institutions including Northeastern Illinois University, United States, St. John's University, Notre Dame, Indiana, USA, and Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos.

Some of the qualifications he claimed to have obtained from these institutions include Doctor of Education in Business Education, Master of Business Education, Bachelor of Business Education, Technical Teachers Certificate in Business Education among others.

However, trusted sources confirmed to SaharaReportersthat most of the claims outlined by Odemuyiwa on his resume are all made up to continue to sustain his lies and scheming.

Recall that Governor Abiodun had on January 16, 2020, ordered all political appointees to produce their certificates and curriculum vitae after Osho’s story was published by SaharaReporters.

The announcement contained in a circular with reference number SSG/ADM. 22/251 and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, reads in part, “Kindly note that all political appointees are required to submit copies of their academic qualifications along with an updated copy of their curriculum vitae.

“These documents should be collated and submitted to the office of the Secretary to the State Government.”

Despite underground moves to turn the tide in her favour, the governing council of Olabisi Onabanjo University on Tuesday unanimously dismissed Osho’s appeal to convert her dismissal from the institution to retirement or withdrawal from service.

Efforts to reach the state government to find out how they would handle Odemuyiwa’s case proved unsuccessful as officials contacted refused to speak on the matter.

Yoruba sons and daughters have been urged to come out in large numbers on Tuesday to participate in a rally to support Operation Amotekun, a security network recently established by governors of South-West Nigeria to wage war against insecurity across the region.

The protest code-named "Amotekun Solidarity Walk" being organised by Yoruba World Congress will take place in all South-West states.

The YWC is led by Emeritus Professor of History and Second Republic Senator, Banji Akintoye.

According to a statement by YWC Director of Contacts and Mobilisation, Comrade Victor Taiwo, the rally will hold simultaneously in Lagos, Abeokuta, Ibadan, Osogbo, Akure and Ado-Ekiti respectively from 9:00am.

The statement reads, “All Yoruba people are urged to come out on Tuesday to show to the world that Amotekun has come to stay.

“We must show the external forces and their internal collaborators who want to stampede our resolve to protect ourselves, safeguard our land from kidnappers, armed-robbery and put an end to consistent destruction of our farmlands that enough is enough.

“Well-meaning Yoruba people and leaders of thought would be at designated venues to address the protest. We want to assure our governors that Yoruba people are behind them on Amotekun.

“We urge them not to shiver and they must never shiver. It is no retreat, no surrender. We will not surrender Amotekun.”

On the meeting points, those in Lagos are expected to converge at Gani Faweyinmi Park, Ojota; Oyo: opposite Agodi Cenotaph, Ogun:  Pansheke Junction, Abeokuta; Osun: Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, Osogbo; Ondo: Alagbaka Roundabout, opposite First Bank, Akure, while those in Ekiti are to converge at Fajuyi Roundabout, Ado-Ekiti.

The list of state coordinators, according to the statement, would be released on Sunday after proper consultation with relevant stakeholders.

Over time,

Millions kept quiet in the face of

Small lies;

Overnight,

Those small lies became

Big stereotypes; and those

Big stereotypes escalated to

Form mountains of distortion.

Over our clime,

Iron-chains of infamy to reap;

From fictive condescensions,

Followed vicious vulgarities,

Bigotry mechanised; and

Transformed into

Bullets and guns

Axes for the genocides

For how long/

Should I appease those/

All-knowing gods of mediocrity?

For how long/

Should I be that/

Sacrificial, monthly burnt offering to their

Peaceful gods of mayhem?

For how long/

Should I be that/

Target of some reptilian, choking, bloody

Dances of death, in my own village by these/

Gentle troops of lethal impunity?

For how long/

Should I be that/

Brave one without means and things to

Defend the herd of goat in the homestead/

Protect the frontline stock of

The courageous, at home and elsewhere?

Ahamefuna-Afamefuna-Ahamefule

For how long/

Should I be that/

Overcomer who, continues to fall for the instigation to cast all

My survivalists’ discretion to their whirlwind,

Toxtrotting, into their deathly reptilian dances?

For how long/

Should I forget/

For their fear of Biafra,

Targeted persons, we’ve become; all

Offsprings of Odumegwu, the Lion of Biafra!

We’ve become; all

Witness bearers and truth-tellers/

In unapologetic agreement with

There was a country!

I say, it was not Wakanda; it was Biafra!

Yomi SARS

Nigerian policeman, Abayomi Ekundayo widely known as GucciManeEko or Yomi SARS by his teeming admirers, has said that combining police work with a career in music has exposed him to criticisms a lot.

The 30-year-old cop, who has partnered top artistes like Olamide, Davido, Wizkid, Pasuma and a host of others, said that due to his involvement with music, some persons usually thought he was not a serious policeman.

According to the young man, who claimed to have been born with a ‘silver spoon’ but decided to leave home early to discover his path in life, combining both professions – music and policing – has helped him reach more people and help solve a lot of social problems in a different style.

He said, “I was born with a silver spoon but I left the comfort of my home to be on the street because I wanted to discover my path early in life and be a better person.

“But being a musician and a cop means that I have become a prime target for criticism.

“But I have learnt to handle those criticisms well especially the ones on social media.”

Maintaining that not all police personnel were corrupt or wicked as widely perceived by a greater percentage of Nigerians, Yomi SARS, who recently released hits including ‘Japa’ (produced by Young John), ‘Adoyoyo’, ‘Gucci Mane Eko’, 'No case' (Featuring Davido, Pasuma, DJ Jimmy Jatt), 'Follow Me' featuring Olamide and many others, said that law enforcement agencies like the police must work closely with members of the public to better protect the society.

He said, “The #EndSARS is no longer one that any responsible citizen-minded police officer can ignore, not necessarily giving credence to some of the gory yet vivid narrations but policing is to maintain the public peace in whatever guise the unrest may come.

“Definitely some officers are on the extreme in the line of duty, some are on the job for personal gratification but we must commend the larger percentage who are worthy ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force.

“I am referring to those that daily defy the lack of basic needs like accommodation, uniform and other kits, up to date technology and equipment to carry out their duties.

"However, this shouldn't stop the police from looking into the various allegations levelled against the body, investigate and weed out the wolves amongst us.”

Signed to Dypes Entertainment and now co-founder of SAPON-GANG, the policeman-turned musician is set to release a new album in the coming weeks after the success of his debut work in 2019.

Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule, said that a notorious kidnapper operating in the state, Buju Bazamfare, has voluntarily surrendered himself to the Nigeria Police Force.

The governor, who said this when he visited the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, also stated that the kidnapper agreed to surrender the ammunition in his possession.

The governor commended the police in the state for ensuring that peace and harmony reigns.

While describing the feat as a huge progress towards reducing crime and criminality in the state, Governor Sule thanked the IGP for all the support he continues to give the state.

In his response, IGP Adamu, disclosed that a security summit for the North Central zone was scheduled to hold in Lafia on January 22, where stakeholders will come together to brainstorm and identify peculiar problems associated with security in the zone.

The IGP said the move was preparatory to deploying community policing fully in the year, stressing however that community policing is not a regional initiative but a state based initiative.
