The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has blasted former Governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Wamakko over comments the group claimed was capable of inciting ethnic cleansing and turmoil in the country.

Wamakko, on Saturday, challenged the leaders of Southeast to stop the attacks of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on northerners living in their geo-political zone.

Wamakko, currently a senator representing Sokoto North, noted that the northern leaders would no longer douse tension among their followers if the attacks on northerners continued in the South-East.

But in a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary-General of the group, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze alleged that the North is responsible for all the uprisings in the South-East, ”to keep Igbo leaders busy with insecurity challenges and set traps for them (Igbo leaders) to fall in and get arrested.”

It noted that the chaos in the South-East was caused by Northern leaders so they could retain Presidency in the North beyond 2023.

The group noted that Wamakko was a hypocrite who could not proffer solutions to the insecurity challenges that had ravaged Northern Nigeria for years.

The statement read, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has cautioned former Sokoto Governor, Aliyu Wamakko over his impulsive comments which are without any iota of truth.

“His comment is capable of inciting ethnic cleansing and turmoil in the country. It is laughable that the likes of Wamakko couldn't proffer solutions to the insecurity challenges in the North for the past 7 years, which the North incubated as a political instrument to oust power from former President Goodluck Jonathan and install the incumbent.

”The North is responsible for all the disaster in the South-East, considering an earlier warning by the USA Embassy Abuja, 'that Northern bandits and killer herdsmen are changing positions to Southern Nigeria to wreak havoc and destabilise the zones'. 

“Northern elders are behind the chaos in Nigeria as a ploy to retain the Presidency in the North beyond 2023, as they did to Jonathan in 2015, so they exported violence to the South-East to keep Igbo leaders busy with insecurity challenges and set traps for them (Igbo leaders) to fall in and get arrested.

“We are amazed at how someone who couldn't remove a speck of dust in his eyelashes could see the remedy for the log of wood in the eyes of Ndigbo. Rhetorically, Wamakko's assertion that Igbo leaders are behind the scenes motivating the violence in the South-East, exposed the northern secrets of supporting bandits and Boko Haram for economic and political reasons. 

“The silence of Igbo leaders is golden and it will generate confusion in the camps of sponsors of terror in the South-East.”

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) has warned the Department of State Services (DSS) that there will be war if the Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), Father Ejike Mbaka, is harmed in any way by the secret police over the invitation of the Catholic priest.

Mbaka had, on Sunday, during a programme at the Adoration Ground, raised the alarm over his invitation by the DSS, announcing that he had been summoned to report to their office in Abuja.

The OYC, in a statement on Monday disclosed by the President-General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, said it would not tolerate further harassment of the priest with the plot to muzzle him.

The statement stated, “I condemn the invitation because it is a plan by the Federal Government to silence Fr. Mbaka; whoever speaks without supporting the government, they now come for the person, just like it banned Twitter.

“There will be war if anything should happen to Father Mbaka.

“DSS has no reason to invite Mbaka. The same Mbaka prophesied the emergence of Buhari, he was not invited by DSS then, but now that he is talking about the state of the nation, hunger and killings in the land, DSS came to invite him.

“But we warn that any plot against Mbaka must be resisted by Igbo youths, let nothing happen to him. This onslaught against a revered priest in Igbo land should stop forthwith.

Angry youths and constituents of Katsina North Central District humiliated the lawmaker representing them at the Senate, Ahmad Babba Kaita on Saturday.

Kaita, who graced the wedding ceremony of his friend’s daughter, Fatima at Mashi was booed and chased out of the Katsina Royal Palace, the venue of the event.

The Senator was invited by his friend, Alhaji Mannir Ibrahim Talba, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, but met with disgrace as the irate youths he had disappointed in the zone humiliated him.

According to an eyewitness at the occasion, Abbas Abu Sukuntuni, who spoke with SaharaReporters on Monday, Kaita has committed many sins against his people who voted him into office.

While speaking, Sukuntumi said Kaita, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not cater for his party people. 

 

He alleged that the lawmaker does not also have a good relationship with members of his party, including the Governor of the state, Aminu Masari, and was not carrying youths along in his agenda.

“There are two or three problems to this thing. That’s how to understand the action of the people protesting against him. One, you know he’s a party man. He was elected under APC. His party sponsored him. He has not done anything for the party. He is not considering the party in any case, or in anything he is doing. That is one.

“Two, he doesn’t have any relationship or good rapport within the party. He doesn’t have a good relationship with the Governor and elders of the other zones. He’s feeling too big to mingle with the Governor or the elders. This is the second issue.

“The last one is that he’s not considering youths. He’s not carrying them along. He uses them and dumps them. And some people are thinking that the incident that happened on Saturday was sponsored. It was not pre-planned. He came there for the wedding of his friend’s daughter and he was booed, not only by youths but along with others there.

“It happened at Mashi local government area on Saturday around 2:00 pm. He was there for the wedding of a daughter of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Mannir Ibrahim Talba. He‘s a friend of his. He was a former commissioner under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform. He was booed at the palace of Katsina’s ruler here in Mashi,” Sunkuntumi said.

Describing what happened before the disgraceful incident on Saturday, Sunkuntumi said Kaita, who had been a member of the House of Representatives since he was a member of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011 also has an ambition to be the next governor of Katsina.

He said that is why he criticises the Masari-led administration. 

He went further to narrate how the Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, whom he described as his political godfather convinced Masari to support him to become a Senator.

“He has an ambition for governorship position and he neglected his zone. You have to respect people. You have to carry along those who voted you in. But, he has pride. He has a godfather, Ahmad Musa Dangiwa, the current managing director of the Federal Mortgage Bank. He supported him for the first time in 2011. He won another election under the PDP he represented in 2015 as well.

“The same godfather persuaded the current governor, Aminu Masari to support him against the will of people. And after that, he always criticises the governor. And they are not on good terms. They are always at loggerheads. He criticises his government on social media. In three to five months, this man cannot come to his constituency and walk freely. He can’t do that. So most of the time he comes in the middle of the night and goes early in the morning,” Sunkuntumi added.

Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, on Saturday, said Yoruba nation agitators saying “they should consider the consequences of war.”

Aregbesola did not mention specific names but many Nigerians, Professor Banji Akintoye and Sunday Igboho have been clamouring for Yoruba nation as the solution to Nigeria's problems.

Ilana Omo Oodua, a group led by Akinyoye, has held rallies in the southwest to demand the Yoruba nation.

Igboho had also declared that the Southwest part was no longer part of Nigeria.

During his declaration, the self-acclaimed activist said the major resources of Nigeria are in the hands of Northerners, stressing that Yorubas were being killed and their land was taken over.

Aregbesola, while speaking at Zenabab Hotel, Ilesha, Osun State, during his 64th birthday celebration on Saturday, warned the agitators to consider the women, children, older people and those living with disabilities, TheNation reports.

He noted that Nigeria would liberate Africa from all oppressions; therefore, Nigerians must not support secessionists.

“Anything that threatens and creates a problem for Nigeria may cause backwardness for our country for 50 years,” he added.
