The International Energy Agency has reduced its forecast on the volume of oil that will be bought per day globally to 1.2 million from 1.3 million.

The global energy body also observed that 1.5 million barrels a day was cut out of the global supply due to the September 14 attack on two Saudi Arabian oil facilities.

The report said, “Global oil supply plunged 1.5 mb/d in September to 99.3 mb/d after attacks on Saudi oil facilities briefly shut in more than half the kingdom’s production.

“Our demand growth forecasts for 2019 and 2020 are both reduced by 0.1 mb/d, to 1 mb/d and 1.2 mb/d, respectively.

“For 2019 this reflects changes to 2018 data and for 2020 it reflects a lower GDP outlook.”

Nigeria’s 2020 budget proposal factored this possibility as well by reducing its average production estimate from 2.3 million bpd to 2.18 million bpd.

It also anticipated the price of petroleum to be $3 less at $57, from its 2019 estimate of $60.

Persons who would have hoped that the Saudi crisis could open some window for Nigeria, were disappointed as the value hike did not stay for up to a week.

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, has affirmed the victory of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri during the March 28, 2019 election.

The tribunal, delivered its verdict on Friday evening in Yola, the state capital.

Justice S. Adebara dismissed the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress challenging Fintiri's victory on two grounds.

Deciding on the preliminary objection, he ruled that the petition was incompetent since Bindow Jibrilla, candidate of the APC, who should benefit from its outcome, was not joined as a party to the suit.

On the substantive matter, Justice Adebara dismissed the suit on its merit and ruled that the petitioner failed to prove his allegations of over-voting, irregularities and none compliance with the law.

He, therefore, dismissed the petition and affirmed the election of PDP's Fintiri as winner of that exercise.

Counsel to the petitioner, Ibrahim Efiong, said, “It was a keenly contested trial but we will study the judgment and advice our client accordingly.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has looked to Russian President, Vladimir Putin, for much needed military support to combat the resurgent Boko Haram terrorists in the North-East.

Citing a report on Kremlin’s RIA news agency, Reuters said PMB will sign a Military Technical Cooperation deal with the eastern European state in the Russian town of Sochi before the end of October.

Nigeria’s ambassador in Russia, Stephen Ogbah, said, “We’re sure that with Russian help we’ll manage to crush Boko Haram given its experience combating Islamic State in Syria.”

The Buhari administration had in 2018 paid $496m for the purchase of two Tucano jets from the United States, which it said would be delivered in 2020.

According to Ogbah, Nigeria is interested in buying Russian helicopters, planes, tanks and other military equipment, adding that a draft version of the deal had already been finalised.

He added, “We hope President Buhari can take the talks to their logical end. The agreement will open new possibilities in such areas as the supply of military equipment and training for specialists.”

Muritala Muhammud International Airport, Lagos

Controversy has trailed the opening of the rear cabin of the Royal Air Maroc aircraft at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Friday.

While a report claimed that the rear cargo cabin of the aircraft was burgled on landing at the airport, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria said that the cargo cabin opened by itself on landing due to impact.

But a source close to the terminal told SaharaReporters that the rear cargo door of the aircraft was forced opened.

The source confided in our correspondent that the aircraft was parked at the E31 area of the airport.

A statement by the General Manager, Public Affairs, FAAN, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, said that the aircraft landed at the airport with open baggage cabin door.

According to her, FAAN's security personnel that escorted the aircraft upon landing confirmed that the aircraft cargo remained open upon landing without any security interference by anyone.

She said, “Appropriate agencies have commenced investigation into the incident to ascertain the cause.”

Damilola Banjo

Nigerian investigative journalist, Damilola Banjo, has been selected as one of the three finalists for the 2019 Thomson Foundation's Young Journalist Award.

Banjo, a journalist with SaharaReporters, made the cut together with Meiryum Ali from Pakistan and Sarita Santoshini, a freelancer from India.

Banjo's investigation into the massive corruption in Lagos State schools and a four-part, in-depth feature on the banditry in Zamfara State were two of the stories that won her a place in the finals.

“One of the criteria for entries is to demonstrate the impact of the stories submitted and this year, from the three finalists, in particular, there are some particularly powerful examples of how investigative journalism prompted national debate,” said the foundation's Chief Executive, Nigel Baker.

Banjo was the 2018 Transparency International's Young Journalist and has been a TigerEyeFoundation grantee for two consecutive years.

In January, she was selected by BBCAfrica Eye for an Open Source Investigation training in Nairobi, Kenya.

The award, in its seventh year, allows journalists aged 30 and under from countries with a gross national income per capita of less than $20,000 to send in their best stories.

The winner of the 2019 Young Journalist Award will be announced in a ceremony in London at the end of November.

The Nigerian Army on Thursday killed 15 suspected Boko Haram insurgents at Jigalta Village, 27 kilometres from Monguno in Borno State.

The troops in conjunction with elements of Sector 2 Multinational Joint Task Force and the Chadian Defence Forces while on a joint clearance operation, were said to have destroyed two gun trucks and captured two others belonging to the suspected criminals.

This was made known through a statement issued on Friday by Colonel Aminu Iliyasu, Media Coordinator, Nigerian Army Operations.

It was gathered that the criminals laid an ambush with five gun trucks and unconfirmed number of insurgents but the troops countered the ambush and decimated the criminals, killing 15 of them.

The Nigeria Police Force has asked members of the public to come forward and report misconduct of its officers.

The call was in response to an exclusive story by SaharaReporters on how police personnel were demanding at least N20,000 from victims of 'one chance' robbery operations in Abuja to launch investigation into such reported incidents.

Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, who spoke on behalf of the police, said the security agency forbids the receipt of money as a precondition for service.

He said, “The Nigeria Police Code of Conduct forbids the demand or receipt of money as a precondition for the rendering of police services to the public.

“Citizens are advised to report all allegations of police misconduct to appropriate police authorities." See Also Exclusive EXCLUSIVE: In Abuja, Police Charge Victims of ‘One Chance’ Robberies N20,000 To Launch Investigation Into Crime

In the report on Thursday, residents of the Federal Capital Territory, who had fallen victim to criminal gangs operating within the city especially ‘one chance’ robbers, disclosed how the police compounded their miseries by demanding money from them before investigating such complaints and help recover their stolen items and also arrest the perpetrators.

Many of the victims said their efforts to get help from the police after being attacked was heart-breaking and hopeless.

Following the disturbing trend in Nigeria’s capital, most neighbourhoods in Abuja have now come up with their own security arrangement to protect themselves and their property from ruthless criminal gangs.
