A member of the Nigerian Army who died in the Orlu clash between the Army and operatives of Eastern Security Network has been buried on Saturday.
A source told SaharaReporters that the soldier was one of many officers who passed away in the community recently.
According to him, the military authorities tries as much as possible to cover up the death of soldiers, leaving such incidents unreported.
He alleged that a similar situation occurred during the #EndSARS protest where a soldier was among the four persons burnt to death.
He said, "Meanwhile, in a compound, block 17 in Obinze barracks, a soldier also was among the 4 people burnt to death during the #EndSARS aftermath but the military killed the story.
"Orlu has been a big problem to 34 Artillery Bridge."
Orlu in Imo State made the headlines recently when operatives of the Nigerian Army clashed with members of the Eastern Security Network, a group formed by Nnamdi Kanu, a major agitator for the realisation of Biafra.
Kanu has said the aim of the ESN was to protect the region from the activities of kidnappers and killer-herdsmen.
According to reports, shoot-outs between members of the ESN and the Nigerian Army led to the deaths of innocent civilians.
Five persons, including a middle-aged woman, were said to have been killed by stray bullets from guns of the Nigerian Army while some properties were burnt.
The soldiers were said to have been drawn from the 34 Artillery Brigade in Obinze.

A group known as Core Incorporation has advised Nigerians to be wary of those posing as ethnic saviours to fight against banditry, killings and kidnappings across the country.
Amid the country's rising insecurity, several individuals and organisations have surfaced, claiming to be championing a solution to the situation.
File Photo: Niger Delta Militants
But in a statement on Sunday, co-conveners of the group, Baba Aye and Gbenga Komolafe, said Nigerians should learn from the emergence of the Oodua Peoples Congress and Niger Delta militants, which were supposedly meant to save their people from problems but allegedly became part of the problem.
The group stated that criminalising people from a particular ethnic group will not solve the problem of insecurity, noting that Nigerians are their own liberators.
CORE also warned that attacks and killing of Fulani or people of any other ethnic nationality in the South-West or any other region is likely to result in a civil war.
The group said things should be put in perspective towards achieving a "revolutionary-democratic solution to the security problem".
The statement read, "The country is at a complex and dangerous juncture. The government has demonstrated its clear inability to safeguard the lives and property of people. Banditry and kidnapping have become widespread across several states, blending with conflicts such as those between herders and farmers into an explosive reality.
"The fact that a significant number of the perpetrators of some of these crimes have been identified as Fulani has been opportunistically used to present the problem, which has deeper roots and dynamics, as one of ethnic differences.
"But simply defining a people, be they Fulani or another nationality, by the infractions of some of them, is counterproductive. It also does not explain why there has been such an increase in criminality as part of the broader state of insecurity.
"Fulani have been chased away from Ibarapa (in Oyo State) and issued an ultimatum to leave the southwestern states. These actions have received support from a cross-section of people in the region.
"Many have lost loved ones or heard tales of people who have suffered in the hands of bandits or kidnappers. Some have had their farmlands overrun by cattle herded by Fulani.
"We must not belittle the loss of people who have been thus affected. But we must put things in perspective towards achieving a revolutionary-democratic solution of this pervasive problem.
"Thus, CORE unequivocally states that: The root causes of increasing criminality are poverty, lack of social protection, and disillusionment in the corrupt ruling class and its state.
"Criminals are not limited to any one ethnic group. For example, Evans who is one of the most notable kidnappers before he was arrested is not Fulani.
"Before the attacks on Fulani in Ibarapa, Yoruba and Fulani had carried out joint patrols to stamp out kidnapping and associated crimes. And it was clear that Fulani people as well had been kidnapped. It is also noteworthy that there are probably as many or more Yoruba in the North as there are Fulani in the South-West.
"Attacks and killing of Fulani or any people of any other ethnicity in the South-West or any other region is likely to result in retaliatory killings and quick descent into unending bloody conflicts and possibly a civil war.
"Some of those now presenting themselves as ethnic saviours have histories of being bandits and political thugs. The poor masses must not entrust their safety and security in such hands.
"We must draw lessons from experiences of the rise of bodies like the OPC and militants in the Niger Delta. Supposed saviours, as ethnic champions, became part of the problem.
"It is the people themselves that can be their own liberators. And we must not be divided along ethnic lines. People from all ethnic groups live in different parts of the country.
"Criminal activities must be treated as such without any ethnicisation of criminality, whilst addressing the root causes of increasing criminality.
"What we need now is unity and solidarity of the poor masses of all creed, ethnicity and across all regions in the struggle for a better society where poverty and this sort of state of insecurity become history."

The All Progressives Congress (APC) ward chairman of Gboko South, Tersoo Ahu, has been killed by gunmen in Gboko on Sunday.
According to the Nation, Ahu and other APC ward excos were said to be engaged in the training of party officials for membership registration and revalidation exercise when gunmen stormed the venue with clubs, cutlasses and others, and manhandled him.
The publicity secretary of the APC, Benue chapter, James Orgunga, who confirmed the incident, said the ward chairman who sustained serious injuries from the attack died later in a public hospital in Gboko, where he was receiving treatment.
The brutal killing of the APC ward chairman in Gboko, the ancestral home of the Tiv people, may not be unconnected with the alleged factions within the party over the 2023 general elections.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of the Benue State Command, Kate Anene, a DSP, confirmed the incident and said investigation into the incident had commenced.
“Yes, I can confirm the attack and killing of the APC ward chairman in Gboko. Our men rushed to the scene but the suspects had fled. However we have identified them and very soon we shall pick them up,” DSP Anene said.

A student of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, in Niger State has alleged that the school authorities demanded N15,000 COVID-19 fee from students.
Speaking with SaharaReporters on Sunday, the student, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the institution's Students Union Government warned students against paying the fee.
FUTMINNA
He said the development had angered the school authorities and thereafter halted resumption plans.
He said, "FUTMINNA has decided to halt all plans to resume academic activities due to a controversy between the school senate and the SUG on the N15,000 COVID-19 fee proposed by the school senate.
"The SUG said none of us should pay the money. Eighty percent of the students have resumed but the school has kept students in the dark about resumption plans. The school is not open to academic activities.
"The vice-chancellor was invited to Channels Television for an interview on resumption update and he said there were plans and all but those are all lies. They are insisting on the money."
When SaharaReporters contacted the registrar of the school, Amos Kolo, he said there was nothing like COVID-19 fee and confirmed that truly, academic activities had yet to resume.

The group urged Yoruba people to be proactive and be fully involved in curbing the criminal activities perpetrated by suspected Fulani foot soldiers.
In a statement by its spokesman, Ola Ajanlekoko, the group said security in the South-West region had been compromised by the Nigerian oligarchy.

“These intentions and methods of operations; which include but not limited to land grabbing, are crystal clear and obvious to all reasonable and impartial persons within and outside Yorubaland.
“YNN urges all Yoruba persons at home and in the diaspora to first and foremost verify and ascertain the veracity of this Yoruba security update, and to also individually and collectively join hands with us to openly condemn the genocidal tendencies of the Fulani foot soldiers; supported by the federal government in massacring our people.

“Be reminded that the safety of the populace is your number one priority in your respective privileged offices,” he added.

The Alliance on Surviving COVID-19 and Beyond (ASCAB) has said the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, should be held accountable for the worsening security situation in the country.
In a statement on Sunday, the interim chairman of the group, Femi Falana (SAN), said the communal clashes occurring in communities across the country could have been avoided if the Nigerian government had intervened.
The human rights lawyer said the government has failed to provide for the welfare and security of the people of Nigeria and Nigerians have resorted to self-help to defend their territories.
Falana, however, expressed worry that the wave of attacks and counter-attacks by armed groups in several parts of the country could lead to a civil war.
He added that self defence groups funded by the state and local governments should be set up for the protection of all communities in the country.
The statement read, "Apart from Section 14 (2) (b) of the Constitution which states that the welfare and security of the people shall be the primary purpose of the government, sections 33 and 43 of the Constitution guarantee the fundamental rights of citizens to live and to own and acquire property in any part of the country.
"But the Federal Government has failed woefully to provide for the welfare and security of the people of Nigeria. In particular, the government has refused to halt violent attacks by armed herders, bandits, kidnappers, terrorists, and armed robbers which have claimed thousands of lives and destruction of property.
"Since the government has failed to protect the people, a number of citizens and groups have resorted to self-help to secure their communities.
"We are however worried that the wave of attacks and counter-attacks by armed groups in several parts of the country could lead to a civil war.
"Therefore, the Alliance on Surviving COVID-19 and Beyond (ASCAB) hereby calls on all aggrieved individuals and groups to hold the Federal government accountable for the worsening insecurity in the country.
"President Mohammadu Buhari ought to summon an emergency meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to address the challenge of insecurity and adopt measures to secure the life and property of every person in Nigeria without any further delay."
The group also stated that the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies should adopt drastic measures to halt violent attacks on communities by armed groups.
They also urged aggrieved individuals and groups to liaise with the human rights community so as to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of all criminal elements who are attacking law-abiding citizens.
"ASCAB demands the immediate formation of self defence groups for the protection of all communities in the country. Such self defence groups should be funded by state governments and local governments," the group submitted.

Two residents of Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State were killed on Sunday afternoon during a communal clash that started on Saturday evening.
Saharareporters learnt that Ilobu and its neighbouring town, Erin-Osun, have been in a land dispute.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola
According to reports, two people, Azeez Adamu and Abdullahi Tairu, were reportedly shot on Saturday following a clash between the communities over a boundary.
SaharaReporters gathered that traditional leaders in the two neighbouring towns had been involved in a dispute over the years.
Recently, the traditional leaders engaged in a verbal assault on Saturday via the phone.
Our source told SaharaReporters that the verbal assault led to fracas among youths from the two towns, which eventually led to the death of the deceased persons.
Consequently, some youths from the two towns started fighting and shooting at one another. Two persons were killed and several others sustained gunshot injuries.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident to reporters.
Following the development, the governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola imposed a 24-hour curfew on Irepodun and Orolu local government areas of the state because of the violence that broke out in Ilobu and Erin-Osun communities.
Oyetola, through the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ismail Omipidan, said in a statement, "As a government, we are resolved to do everything possible to protect citizens from actual and potential threats. To this end, we have ordered the immediate deployment of security operatives to restore law and order.
“I want to appeal to our people not to destroy our collective heritage by taking the law into their own hands. Two wrongs don’t make a right. I, therefore, appeal to the warring parties to sheath their sword and allow peace to reign," the governor said.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, also disclosed this in a press statement on Sunday, titled, ‘Osun declares 24-hour curfew in Irepodun, Orolu’.
He said the curfew was to reduce tension in the troubled areas, where two people were killed on Saturday.
Oyetola had earlier ordered the deployment of police in the communities to restore peace.
The statement read, “The state government has declared a 24-hour curfew in Irepodun and Orolu Local Government Areas of the State, following the violence that broke out between Ilobu and Erin-Osun communities on Saturday.
“The declaration of curfew became necessary to douse tension in the troubled area. This will subsist until further notice.
“Recall that only about a few hours ago, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola had ordered the immediate deployment of armed policemen with support from the army to restore law and order.
“As a responsible and responsive government that took the sacred oath to protect the lives and property of our citizens, we believe that the declaration of curfew is the way to go in this circumstance.
“By this, security operatives have been directed to arrest and prosecute any person found violating the curfew and those responsible for the violence.
“All citizens and residents of the affected local government areas are enjoined to comply with this directive as any person found contravening this order shall be made to face the wrath of the law.
“The government enjoins all our citizens to be peaceful and to be law-abiding as all efforts shall be made to protect them and their property.”

A man from Nassarawa State has narrated how the Basic Registry and Information System in Nigeria (BRISIN) allegedly deceived him and other job seekers, using the presidential seal on a job vacancy.
The man, who spoke with SaharaReporters on Sunday, said he and his friends had come across a WhatsApp post last year, about job vacancies at the BRISIN.
Anthony Uwa
He said they originally thought such was posted by scammers to swindle unsuspecting members of the public.
The man, however, said they believed the post was credible when BRISIN's head of implementation, Anthony Uwa, confirmed the purported job openings while appearing on a Channels TV programme.
He said they paid N1,000 each for registration while about 48,000 applicants were shortlisted for just 5,000 slots.
The man said the shortlisted applicants were again asked to pay another N500 before they could access questions during the online test conducted for them last March.
He said since the test was conducted, BRISIN had remained silent about the outcome of the test, accusing the agency of scamming Nigerians.
He said: "It happened early last year. We saw an advert placement on different WhatsApp groups about a job with Basic Registry for Information System in Nigeria (BRISIN). At first, we thought it was the usual scam.
"But the DG, Dr. Anthony Uwa, deflated our doubtful thought by coming on live session of Channels TV to confirm the job openings and shed more light on how the new organisation was going to operate.
"To make us believe, they used the seal of the presidency on the vacancy. We paid N1,000 for registration. When they shortlisted us, about 48,000 applicants were listed for meagre 5, 000 slots. We were to take online exams around last March but to our surprise, before we could access the questions that had been set, we were meant to pay N500 again after which we took the exams. But since then, we haven't heard anything from BRISIN nor Dr Uwa."
