Protesters demanding an end to police brutality in Abuja have arrested two armed thugs, who came to attack them with cutlasses and other dangerous objects.

The attackers numbering over 20 swooped on the peaceful protesters at about 5:00pm shortly after they had left Banex Junction where they were initially gathered.

The hoodlums upon arrival at the place chased the crowd towards Mabushi Highway.

But shortly afterwards, the demonstrators were able to summon courage and push back and overpowered the attackers.

This led to the arrest of two of the thugs while the others took to their heels.

They were later taken to the police station for further investigation to unravel those sponsoring them.

Maina, who is facing a 12-count charge of money laundering alongside his son, has continued to absent himself from trial, thereby stalling the case.

Ndume has continued to claim that he does not know the whereabouts of Maina, adding that he was pressured to stand as surety for him.

SaharaReporters had previously reported that Ndume submitted fake and forged documents to perfect the bail of Maina from prison, who was initially admitted to bail in the sum of N1bn with two sureties in like sum.

After being unable to meet his bail term, the judge varied the condition for Maina to produce one senator, who must sign a bail bond in the sum of N500m and accompany him to court on every trial day.

Ndume subsequently agreed to stand surety for Maina but rather than present original documents, submitted forged ones to the court to perfect Maina’s bail.

According to Global Transparency and Anti-corruption Network, Ndume presented the property documents of a house owned by one Ahmed Lawal, deceiving the court that it was his.

Ndume also presented a forged Irrevocable Power of Attorney on the property, adding that the property in question had previously been forfeited to the government in a separate case.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, after meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

President Muhammadu Buhari

Relaying Buhari’s opinion on the ongoing #EndSARS protest after their meeting, the minister revealed that the President had vowed to see the reforms he promised were fully implemented.

Dare, who spoke to journalists after the meeting, added that President Buhari also appealed to the protesters to give government time to address their demands as the team set up had already gone to work.

He said, “Mr President said the youth of this country have spoken and he has heard and he has since gone to work for the youth of our country. The President promised that he will ensure that the reforms he had promised are met, he will make sure that the reforms are long lasting and that the reforms will deliver for our country a police that we will be proud of.

“He appreciates the fact that they have brought the SARS issues to the fore through their peaceful protest. He recognises the fact that they have called upon the government to do what is necessary and that as the President and a father, he will make sure that the demands as put forward are met.

“The President said that as far as he is concerned, it’s important to allow the younger generation to exercise the freedom to protest and make sure that such protest is in a peaceful manner.”

Christians in Ondo State, who are from different denominations, hit the streets of Akure on Sunday to protest against police brutality and insecurity in the country.

Tagged, “Akure Walk For Peace”, they marched with Nigeria’s flag as they held different prayer sessions on the streets of Alagbaka in Akure.

Felix Adejumo, the founder of the Agape Christian Ministry, appreciated the youth for coming out to demand a better system that works for everyone.

Adejumo said Nigeria is richly blessed but needed competent leaders that would change the narratives, urging Nigerians to always pray for the country to be delivered from the hands of wicked leadership, corruption, and insecurity.

“Since my existence, I have never seen the passion that the youths of our country are currently displaying towards the deliverance of Nigeria,” he said. “We have refused what is not right in this nation, and I’m sure it will not remain.

“We believe in the destiny of this nation, and we think that God is going to rescue us from bad leaders, and that is why we want to change the trajectory of our country. We are a giant in Africa. We shall make it great again.

“In Nigeria today, people can no longer feed and send their children to school, and there is no enabling environment for business to strive. So, we pray that all the enemies of this country shall be scattered.”

Earlier, Sam Leye, the Convener Akure Prayer Walk, condemned the attitude of Nigerian leaders to the yearnings of the citizens.

Leye said that lack of jobs, insecurity, rising costs of food, bad governance among others were part of the problems facing the country.

He described the ongoing protest across the country as part of plans to seek God’s help for a way forward for Nigeria.

“We thank God for waking us up as youths, and I know Nigerian shall never be docile again as we have broken the yolk of bad leadership,” he said.

“Under the leadership of our youths, we shall have a Nigeria that will prosper and flourish. I know we can do this together with everyone’s support.”

The #EndSARS protests continued in different parts of the country on Sunday, with several youths injured after hoodlums attacked them.

In Lagos, Leke Adeboye, the son of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, joined other Nigerian youths at the state secretariat at Alausa, Ikeja.

Leke, who led the Sunday Church Service at the protest ground in front of the Lagos State Government House, said the demonstration signalled the beginning of a new Nigeria.

“I want all of us to know that this nation has been handed over to us slowly but surely by this singular move that we are all here representing our families, friends and nation. This is the beginning of the new Nigeria,” he said.

Also, protesters occupied the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with a canopy pitched in front of PUNCH Place, the corporate headquarters of Punch Nigeria Limited at Magboro, Ogun State.

They had loudspeakers, a disc jockey and an ambulance stationed on the protest ground, as they sang and danced.

The protest caused gridlock both inward and outward Lagos for long hours.

In the Lekki area of Lagos, the youth arrested and handed over a co-protester, Yusuf Lawal, to the police for allegedly stealing the phone of another protester.

PUNCH Metro gathered that after Lawal stole the phone, he handed it over to an accomplice, who absconded with it.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said efforts were on to arrest the fleeing member of the gang.
